Princess Diana's Friend Says Meghan Markle Is A 'Female Empowerment Pioneer' Like The Late Princess

Years after her death, Princess Diana is still at the forefront of the minds and hearts of her family members. As a member of the royal family, it’s common for Meghan Markle to be compared to Diana. Now, an old friend of Diana’s has come out to say that Meghan is far more similar to the mother-in-law she has never met than most people would think.
According to The List, the Duchess of Sussex had been compared to the late princess back in March 2021 during her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey alongside Harry. Fans were quick to compare that interview with Diana’s extremely vulnerable and eye-opening tell-all with BBC journalist Martin Bashir in 1995.
In her 1995 interview, the Princess of Wales opened up about her mental health struggles and what really led to the end of her marriage with then-Prince Charles. Similarly, Meghan talked about the issues she had been facing regarding the royal family and the way people viewed and treated her during her 2021 interview.
Also, in the documentary special "The Me You Can't See" that saw Winfrey and Harry discuss emotional well-being and mental health with celebrity guests, Harry made similar criticisms and described the toll discriminatory comments take on mental health.
“Within the first eight days of our relationship being made public was when they said, ‘Harry’s girl almost straight outta Compton.’ And that her exotic DNA will be thickening the royal blood,” Harry said of the media’s treatment of Meghan in the documentary, according to The Independent. “We would get followed, photographed, chased, harassed.”
Harry then makes a comparison between the hate Meghan has faced and the racism that his mother and Egyptian boyfriend experienced in the late 1990s, saying that “history was repeating itself.”

Like Princess Diana, Meghan has served as a lightning rod for comments and criticism from strangers and the media alike ever since she began dating Prince Harry in 2016. Much of the British public was unaware of Meghan or her acting career, but initial interest soon turned darker. It got so bad that, in October 2016, the royal palace was forced to release a statement on behalf of the duke, describing the media coverage as “harassment” and “abuse,” and even having “racial undertones.”
Even after the pair were wed in 2018, the situation remained tenuous, culminating in Harry and Meghan denouncing their royal titles, ending their tenure as working royals and moving to the United States in March 2020 in a move dubbed Megxit.
Despite their move, tensions appeared not to have soothed over. Reports surfaced that Harry’s father, King Charles III, in a bid to streamline the monarchy and reduce the financial burden on British taxpayers, was set to leave the Sussexes out of his plans.
However, not everyone is dead set against Meghan. Voice coach Stewart Pearce, who worked and was friends with Princess Diana before her untimely death, believed Meghan shares some of the same independent and fearless characteristics Diana had.
In explaining Meghan had the same “spirit” and “courage” Diana did, Pearce told The Sun:
“There is a vibrational difference, but the point is that the courage, the sensitivity that it took to come forth with those revelations was outstanding and I felt that what Meghan was actually living through was the spirit of revelation, the spirit of transparency that Diana was trying to achieve.”

The author of “Diana: The Voice of Change,” who gave the princess private voice and presence lessons for two years, told The Sun, “Diana was decades ahead of her time, she changed the world with hope, empowerment, kindness, and authenticity.”
In the same vein, Meghan followed in Diana’s footsteps as a “female empowerment pioneer” with her tell-all Oprah interview to “speak her truth.”
“There is a similarity between both women that their voices have changed,” Pearce said.
As for the friction between King Charles and Prince Harry, Pearce said it does not appear as serious as the media make it out to be.
“Being privy to these people’s lives, the stories we’ve heard about the boys not getting on or disparagement between Harry and his father, is the stuff of all our lives,” Pearce told the outlet.
“In Harry’s tone of expression, we do not hear spleen, anger, revenge, reprisal and hear no form of disrespect. What we hear is a young man emotionally excavating and having an emotional autopsy on what he believes the values of the world are,” Pearce added.
Pearce continued by saying he empathized with Harry and that the prince was simply progressing with the values of today’s day and age:
"I happen to concur with his values. We are getting emotionally intelligent, speaking about the way we feel.”
Pearce has long held a positive view of Diana and Meghan, having told Fox5 in 2021 that the two were “extraordinary” women:
“Diana was a force of liberation... I feel that as Diana was a voice of liberation, Harry and Meghan are doing something extraordinary about a regime that needs to change.”
