To draw the attention of the public, the organizers send letters to multiple public figures asking them to reveal their favorite dish and to share the recipe for it.

One of these public figures was none other than Lady Diana Spencer, who had just been married to Prince Charles. Diana decided to submit her favorite dish, in the letter that she sent to the South African care facility she shared a recipe for Borscht, a beet soup.

“The Lady Diana Spencer has asked me to thank you very much for your letter,” reads the letter. “The Lady Diana’s favourite recipe is Borsch soup. It has the following ingredients – beetroot, natural yogurt, onions, chicken stock, milk, sour cream, salt and pepper.”

Borscht, is a traditional Ukrainian dish that is mostly made out of beets and usually topped off with creamy dairy. The healthy and nutritious soup is perfect for the colder seasons, though it can be enjoyed hot and cold.

Angeline Hopley, the original curator of the charity cookbook actually still has the Lady Di's letter. But hers hadn't been the only written response Hopley had received in 1981. Margaret Thatcher, the “Iron Lady” of British politics, shared her recipe for an orange walnut cake while Queen Elizabeth's staff refused to submit a recipe of the Queen's favorite dish because sharing it would violate the palace rules.

Have you ever tried Borscht before? What is your favorite dish? Let us know in the comments and be sure to pass this article along to others so they can try out Lady Di's recipe.
