Princess Diana's Butler Reveals The Mom Would 'Be Heartbroken' Over Harry & William's Rift

The late Princess Diana, known as the Princess of the People, was well-loved by many as an individual and mainly as a mother too. She has shown, on many occasions, how she became a strict but very loving mother to Prince Harry and Prince William. Her former butler, Paul Burrell, spoke to OK! Magazine last May 2022 to reveal what Princess Diana would have thought of the current relationship between her two sons now since the two started not talking to each other after Harry's big move to California.

Princess Diana was a member of the British royal family and was viewed by many as the people's princess. She was a doting mother to her two children, Prince William and Prince Harry, and was always caring for them dearly. During her time in the spotlight as a key member of the royal family due to her marriage to King Charles III, Diana was highly respected for her friendliness, charisma, activism, and charity work. She was also well-known for having an impeccable sense of style.

Once she became the Princess of Wales, Diana took on many royal duties and responsibilities and represented the royal family well at many events and functions across the Commonwealth. As a mother, much of her work centered around the upbringing of children. Diana also worked at balancing life as a mother and an important royal figure, and oftentimes would bring her sons with her during royal outings. She regularly broke royal traditions as she set out to be the type of mother she yearned to be.

Among his two children, it would seem like Prince Harry got her mother's rebellious streak. In a stunning turn of events in 2020, Prince Harry decided to move to Santa Barbara, California, with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their son Prince Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. Since then, the couple has attempted to live a rather uncontroversial life.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their duties as Senior Royals in 2020, moving to the United States to become financially independent. However, in an interview with Oprah in March 2021, the couple revealed that the Palace told them that Prince Archie, their firstborn, would not be given a title and a security detail because of how "dark" Archie's skin would be. These issues caused a further rift between the two and the British Royal Family, including his brother Prince William and his father, King Charles III.

Meanwhile, his brother, Prince William, remained in the United Kingdom, fulfilling his responsibilities as Duke Cambridge along with his wife, Princess Kate Middleton, and children Prince GeorgePrincess Charlotte, and Prince Louis

Since Queen Elizabeth II's passing on Sept. 8, 2022, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle traveled to the United Kingdom to be with the British Royal Family for the queen's funeral.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were both present at the state funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth, along with Prince William and Kate Middleton. The four of them surprised bystanders on Sept. 10, 2022, as they personally greeted them outside Windsor Castle and accepted some of their flowers and tributes to the late Queen Elizabeth.

In a May 2022 interview on OK! Magazine with the late Princess Diana's former butler, Paul Burell, he shared his thoughts on what her former boss would say about the drifting apart of his two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

"She'd be heartbroken. It wouldn't have got as bad as this if she was still here. She'd have banged their heads together. She's probably the only person that could have done that. If Diana had been here [the rift] would never have happened," Burell elaborated.

He also detailed how during his time, he could not have thought that Prince William and Prince Harry would be separated because of their tightly-knit relationship when they were still younger.

"I cannot get my head around it. I saw those boys grow up and they were tighter than you can possibly believe. They referred to each other about everything. When Diana died I thought they would be inseparable," he added.

Furthermore, Paul Burell, who has been living happily with his husband in Cheshire, England, believes that Prince Harry would not be more content living in California than in his home in the United Kingdom.

"Harry's going to need his brother one day. I think he will come back to this country with his tail between his legs. His brother will put his arms around him and say, 'Welcome home, Harry.' I don't think he's totally happy. I think he's missing his brother, I really do. I think he's missing his family, I think he's missing his friends and the lifestyle he had here in England. I think he's given everything up for Meghan and I don't know how long he's going to be able to live that life," Burell told the publication
