At just 9 years old, Princess Charlotte is creating her own identity as a member of the royal family, and her curated style is a mix of adorable and formal. During the church service at Sandringham on Christmas Day 2024, she stood out as she joined the rest of her family for the sermon.

Her parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and her brothers Prince George, 11 and Prince Louis, 6, all wore coordinated plaid green and blue outfits. Princess Charlotte wore a chic plaid coat and dress that matched her mother’s scarf, and Princess Catherine wore a stunning green fitted coat from Alexander McQueen. The young princess also wore navy stockings and black Mary Janes, painting a picture of poised royalty. The small family braved the cold in style for the festive season as they gathered alongside other families to celebrate the spirit of Christmas.

While Princess Charlotte’s outfit embodied stylish elegance, it was her cute and subtle necklace that had royal watchers talking. The dainty ruby necklace is from jewelry brand Aya and is part of their collaboration with Gemfields. According to their online store, it fetches a steep price of £1,500 ($1,900). The necklace has since been sold out, proving the young royal’s growing influence on style trends.

Princess Charlotte, known to be a fan of singer Taylor Swift, also accessorized her outfit of the day with friendship bracelets and a red-tasseled gold band.

Although the dainty ruby necklace was barely noticeable, its origin piqued the interest of many. This is because Princess Charlotte’s cute necklace holds an interesting connection to her uncle, Prince Harry. The jewelry brand Aya was founded by Chelsy Davy, who is the ex-girlfriend of the Duke of Sussex.

Prince Harry and Davy, a Zimbabwean businesswoman, had an on-and-off relationship for several years before their eventual split just after Prince William married Catherine. According to one of her friends, Davy struggled with being in the spotlight and enduring constant media attention. She also felt that she could not make the same sacrifices that Catherine had made and ultimately decided to part ways with Prince Harry in 2010. Prince Harry eventually met Meghan Markle in 2016, and the pair married two years later in 2018.

Founded in 2016, Aya focuses on fine jewelry inspired by African-style creations. The brand creates 18k gold designs with gold sourced from the African continent. According to the brand’s website:

“Aya was founded by Chelsy Davy, a lawyer turned gemologist with a love for jewellery and a fascination for gemstones. Chelsy studied gemology, gaining a diploma from the Gemological Institute of America, the world's foremost authority on diamonds and coloured gemstones.”

After quitting her law career, Davy fully invested herself in her jewelry business. She is now married to Sam Cutmore-Scott, a hotel owner. The couple married in 2022 and have two children. Describing her brand and the inspiration behind it, Davy said:

“AYA was born out of my love for Africa, for its people and my fascination with its gemstones.”
