Princess Charlotte Marks Her 11th Birthday As ‘The One In Charge’ At Home

Today, May 2, 2026, Princess Charlotte celebrates her 11th birthday, marking another milestone in a life shaped by royal tradition and widespread public interest. As the second child of Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, Charlotte holds the position of third in line to the British throne, placing her at the heart of the monarchy’s future.

Born on May 2, 2015, at St Mary’s Hospital in London, she entered the world in a moment watched by millions. Her older brother, Prince George, visited soon after her birth, a gesture widely reported by The Guardian and remembered as one of her first public appearances. Celebrations quickly followed, with iconic landmarks such as the London Eye and Tower Bridge illuminated in pink, alongside traditional gun salutes.

Her full name, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, honors both late Queen Elizabeth II and Diana, Princess of Wales. The tribute reflects her deep-rooted connection to royal history, while many observers have noted her resemblance both in appearance and character to her late grandmother,  who passed away in a tragic car accident in Paris in 1997.

Charlotte is known for having a fiery yet silly personality. In the summer of 2019, Charlotte was spotted sticking her tongue out at the crowd at The King’s Cup regatta. According to Harper’s Bazaar, the princess also caused quite a stir when she barred photographers from attending Louis’ Christening.

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward, author of “My Mother and I: The Inside Story of the King and Our Late Queen,”  highlighted Charlotte’s close relationship with her mother, stating, “To Kate, their bond is deeply meaningful. They’re not just mother and daughter – they’re true companions.” This connection continues to shape Charlotte’s upbringing, offering stability and warmth within a highly visible royal life.

Princess Charlotte’s personality has become increasingly defined, with those close to the royal family often noting her confidence and strong presence. Her mother once described her as “the one in charge” at home, a remark shared by Samantha Burge, the wife of a Royal Marine commando who spent time with Princess Catherine. This description reflected Charlotte’s natural assertiveness and her ability to stand out within the family dynamic.

In the interview with PEOPLE magazine in 2017, Burge added:

“(The duchess said) they are both becoming really good friends, George and Charlotte.”

As the middle child, Princess Charlotte maintains a close relationship with both Prince George and Prince Louis, suggesting a strong foundation of support and companionship as they grow older together.

Attention has also turned toward Charlotte’s education, as her parents consider future academic paths that will support her development. These decisions are seen as important in helping her gradually define her role within the royal institution, balancing tradition with modern expectations.

Despite the closeness of her family, royal duties sometimes create unavoidable absences. Her grandfather, King Charles III, is unable to attend her 11th birthday due to official commitments in the United States. Nevertheless, their relationship remains affectionate and well established.

As Princess Charlotte continues to grow, her confidence and individuality are becoming more apparent. Each public appearance reveals more of her character, capturing attention and admiration. She represents a new generation of royals — grounded in tradition yet increasingly defined by personality, presence, and a sense of independence.
