Princess Charlotte Kept Her Line In Succession Due To The Late Queen’s Momentous Ruling

Having turned 7 in May 2022, Princess Charlotte is proving to be the cheekiest member of the royal family. Besides her fiery personality, Charlotte also bears a striking resemblance to her father William, Prince of Wales and furthermore, her grandmother, Princess Diana. However, the resemblance between her and her great-grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II has been long drawn by fans since the little royal was a baby.

As she continues to get older, fans can’t help but notice the similarities Charlotte has with her great-grandmother who passed away on Sept. 8th, 2022. From Charlotte's little smirks to her serious eyes that resemble Elizabeth’s pensive face, she's inherited more than royal blood from Her Majesty.

Aside from physical similarities, Charlotte and Elizabeth were also known to share a special bond while the queen was still alive. The late monarch had a unique bond with each of her family members, although she had shown a keen interest in one of her great-grandchildren, Princess Charlotte. While it is common for middle children to feel left out or like they aren't getting as much attention as their older and younger siblings, this has not been the case for Charlotte. The queen's strong love and admiration for her great-granddaughter only got stronger as Charlotte got older and became more interested in the same hobbies and interests as the queen.

Although Queen Elizabeth has passed away, her and Charlotte’s bond will live on. The late queen made sure to ensure that Princess Charlotte would live an equal life through the Succession of the Crown Act.

Before Queen Elizabeth passed the Succession of the Crown Act in 2013, sons took precedence in the line of succession over daughters. Princess Charlotte’s great aunt, Princess Anne, although born before Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, was bumped down in succession after her brothers were born.

When this act was passed, this gave Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales' future daughter, Princess Charlotte, a chance to keep her original seat in line for the crown. According to Express, expert Lain MacMarthanne said, "The 2013 Act sought to bring multiple pieces of outdated and discriminatory legislation relating to the monarchy up to date." He added, "Through this Act male primogeniture was abolished, allowing the firstborn child irrespective of gender to become heir apparent."

"The disqualification from inheriting the throne by marrying a Catholic was removed; and the Royal Marriages Act of 1772 was repealed, resulting in only the first six in line to the throne being required to obtain the sovereign’s permission,” he added. With the act passing, the late queen gave Princess Charlotte an equal and bright future.

Princess Charlotte was born second in her immediate family and on May 23, 2021, Express reported that Charlotte was the queen's favorite great-grandchild due to her incredible fondness and love for horses and horseback riding. Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, gave more details about their strong relationship and how the queen grew to love her great-granddaughter even more.

Ever since Charlotte was born and it was revealed that there was a new royal girl in the family, the queen was "thrilled," according to Inside Express. Since growing up a little more, Charlotte found a fascination with horses, which only brought her closer to her late great-grandmother.

While the queen showed an immense amount of care for her family, her fondness for Charlotte was definitely noted. "I think she is very fond of Charlotte, always watching what she's up to," Kate explained at the time.

According to Closer Weekly, the queen — as well as everyone in the Wales household — thoroughly enjoyed watching the tiny princess grow. “It’s very special having a little girl,” Kate said. “I feel very, very lucky.”

After Queen Elizabeth's passing in September 2022, Princess Charlotte’s title changed from Princess Charlotte of Cambridge to Princess Charlotte of Wales. Aside from losing her great-grandmother, the young princess is also going through other life changes. Released in August of 2022, a senior royal source told ABC News that the royal couple wants to give their children a normal upbringing by moving from London to Windsor. “As the children get older and more independent you can see why they would feel they have more breathing space in Windsor,” the source shared.

Charlotte left her original school of St Thomas's School in Battersea and now is attending Lambrook School, one of the country’s leading prep schools. According to Lambrook, the students also have access to one-of-a-kind courses. “... pupils in the Prep School have a dedicated ‘Enrichment Afternoon’ with opportunities for our pupils continu(ing) to complement their academic studies in areas including, Farming, Bee Keeping, Chess, Mountain Biking, Fencing, Judo, Fencing, Film Making, Squash, Scuba Diving ... Song writing, Mini Masterchef, Ballet, Tap, Jazz …” the website stated.

This move from London to Windsor helps give the children the opportunity to have somewhat close to a regular childhood. "But this has been driven by what William and Kate want for their children and they have always been resolved to try and have a normal family life," the source also shared.
