On July 8, 2025, the Princess of Wales made a dazzling return to royal glamour at a state banquet held at Windsor Castle in honor of the French president’s official visit. At 43, Princess Catherine captivated attention by wearing a tiara for the first time in over 18 months, marking a much-anticipated return to her regal style.
Earlier that day, the royal couple had welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife upon their arrival at RAF Northolt, an airbase in Greater London. From there, they accompanied the visiting dignitaries to Windsor for an official welcome by King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The entire group then took part in a grand horse-drawn carriage procession to Windsor Castle, where they enjoyed a formal lunch and viewed a curated exhibition of treasures from the Royal Collection.
This banquet marked Princess Catherine’s first tiara moment since December 2023, when she wore Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara at the annual Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace. On that occasion, she paired the iconic headpiece with a blush pink Jenny Packham gown that she previously wore at the Jordanian royal wedding.
Her last state banquet appearance was in November 2023 during the South Korean state visit, where she wore the historic Strathmore Rose Tiara, a piece not seen in public since the 1930s.

The first state banquet at Windsor Castle in over a decade was a grand affair marking the French state visit. Leading the procession were King Charles and President Emmanuel Macron, followed by Queen Camilla and Brigitte Macron. The Prince of Wales was accompanied by Professor Edith Heard, while Princess Catherine walked just behind him alongside art historian Christophe Leribault. Other royal attendees included Prince Edward and Sophie, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Anne, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and additional family members.
Princess Catherine turned heads in Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara, a cherished piece she has worn repeatedly since her first appearance in it at the 2015 Diplomatic Reception. The tiara, once famously worn by Princess Diana, has since become a signature accessory for Catherine at formal royal events, including previous state banquets and the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa of Jordan.
For this special evening, the Princess of Wales chose a dramatic, caped red gown by Sarah Burton for Givenchy, the same designer behind her wedding dress. She completed the regal look with earrings once owned by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Catherine and Prince William also shared a charming photo of themselves dressed to the nines, which they posted to social media, delighting fans across the globe. The caption read:
“Ready for what promises to be a wonderful State Banquet this evening in Windsor.”
Since marrying Prince William in 2011, Princess Catherine has worn four different tiaras from the royal collection. Her absence from the tiara moments in 2024 was primarily due to her stepping away from public life to focus on her cancer treatment. While she didn’t wear a tiara during the Qatar state visit in December 2024, she was still present for the occasion.
