On a Jan. 30, 2025, visit to the Corgi textile factory in South Wales, Princess Catherine revealed that she has an enviable archive of children’s clothes from the wardrobes of her children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.

During her visit to the knitwear and handmade socks factory, the Princess of Wales shared a lighter moment with employees, trying to sew a sock on one of the machines: “It’s so fiddly,” she said, laughing. “It’s definitely not my forte.” She joked that factory employee Shauna Kinsey made it “look so easy.”

The Princess was clearly excited about being at the factory, saying: “It’s so lovely to be here. I’ve been looking forward to it. I’ve heard all about your brand.”

Catherine was also delighted to learn that local schoolchildren participate in work experience at the factory, remarking: “It’s nice to see the younger ones coming in and learning this craftsmanship.”

Catherine’s three royal children have long been spotted sporting hand-me-downs and family heirlooms, adding a touch of nostalgia to their royal wardrobe. According to Hello!, Catherine, 43, said their garments “wore really well” and that it was “so lovely to reuse the things that are well made.”

It’s no secret that the Princess is a fan of sustainable fashion, as we all remember when little Prince Louis wore his father, Prince William’s, sailor suit for the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

Then there is Charlotte, who turned heads in what looked like a pair of her uncle, Prince Harry’s, signature red buckle-up shoes during a royal tour of Germany and Poland in 2017, alongside her parents and George.

Even Catherine’s younger brother, James Middleton, has had the privilege of tapping into the royal family’s treasure trove of clothing. His one-year-old son, Inigo Middleton, has inherited a charming collection of hand-me-downs from Catherine and their sister, Pippa Middleton, further extending the family’s circle of fashion.

In his 2024 memoir “Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life,” James wrote:

“We are an affectionate and close-knit family and there are lots of hugs and laughter.”

James also touched on how hand-me-downs from his sisters have become a special part of his son Inigo’s early life.

“Catherine and Pippa bring two big suitcases of hand-me-down clothes, so Inigo’s cupboards are full of sweet little outfits his cousins – even the girls – have worn,” he continued.

Reflecting on the clothes he received for his baby boy, James admitted that while the items seemed “enormous” at the time, he soon realized that babies grow quickly, and Inigo would “fit them in a blink.” He also shared that parenting has been a journey of trial and error for him and his wife, Alizée.

“We’re deluged with advice from my sisters, but we muddle through in our own way, sometimes getting things right, sometimes wrong,” he said.

In a September 2024 interview with Hello!, James revealed that the hand-me-downs also hold sentimental value for Catherine and Pippa, allowing them to reminisce about their own children’s younger years:

“They are milestones, because (my sisters) remember when their child was wearing something, and how old they were – it takes them back,” he said, adding, “It’s been a lovely thing for them.”

British childrenswear designer Rachel Riley, who dresses the Wales children, previously praised the couple’s fondness for reusing clothes, noting:

“They love traditional clothes, and it’s lovely to see them wearing things again and again.”
