Princess Catherine Is Transforming Forest Lodge into “Forever Home” with Signature Style

The Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine, are settling into life at Forest Lodge, a private residence located within Windsor Great Park. The move marks a significant moment for the family of five, and it seems that Princess Catherine is bringing her signature style to the new home.

The Princess of Wales has long demonstrated an interest in interior design, a skill often attributed to her background in art history from the University of St Andrews, where she met Prince William. Over the years, she has played a hands-on role in designing the interiors of Nottingham Cottage, Anmer Hall, and Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace — each of which received praise for its warmth, craftsmanship, and timeless aesthetic.

Princess Catherine’s design influence became widely recognized following the renovation of Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace, a project that blended classic detailing with contemporary sensitivity. The space gained international attention when the couple welcomed Barack and Michelle Obama there on April 22, 2016, sharing warm family photos alongside a then-toddler Prince George.

Prince Harry later described Catherine’s design work in his 2023 memoir “Spare,” writing: “The wallpaper, the ceiling trim, the walnut bookshelves filled with volumes of peaceful colours, priceless works of art. Magnificent. Like a museum.” At the time of that renovation, Harry and Meghan Markle were living in Nottingham Cottage, and Harry playfully noted their contrast in décor: “We congratulated them on the renovation without holding back the compliments while feeling embarrassed of our Ikea lamps and the second-hand sofa we’d recently bought on sale with Meg’s credit card.”

Forest Lodge, what reporters have described as the family’s “forever home,”  offers more space and long-term stability than their previous residence, Adelaide Cottage, while remaining close to the children’s schools and the broader royal estate. The transition to the eight-bedroom property occurred earlier than initially planned, with renovation work completed ahead of schedule.

Moving during the children’s fall school break allowed the family more time to settle before returning to their royal duties and educational routines. The home’s larger footprint also provides Princess Catherine with the opportunity to further develop the “contemporary classic” style she has brought to each of the couple’s previous residences.

In September 2025, Catherine visited Marina Mills, a family-run textile manufacturer known for supplying fabrics to Buckingham Palace and Clarence House. While the palace has shared no specific purchases, the visit aligns with her pattern of working with British artisans to create elegant yet comfortable living spaces. Forest Lodge is expected to continue this balance of tradition and modernity, making it both a family home and an appropriate setting for future hosting duties.

Forest Lodge’s reported features — including a substantial dining room suited for gatherings — align with the couple’s future responsibilities. As Prince William moves closer to his role as king, the family is expected to host larger gatherings, private meetings, and extended family events in their new home. The combination of intimacy and function makes Forest Lodge a fitting residence for their evolving royal duties.

To acknowledge the workers who helped complete the move earlier than planned, the Daily Mail reported that William and Catherine organized a small private thank-you gathering at The York Club, offering food and drinks to staff. A source noted:

“The couple very sweetly just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has worked tirelessly to help.”
