Princess Catherine Delivered In Stunning Gold Dress & Iconic Princess Diana Tiara At State Banquet

When Windsor Castle hosts a state banquet, it becomes a stage for regal tradition and diplomacy. On Sept. 17, 2025, its historic halls welcomed President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a glittering evening celebrating the bond between the United Kingdom and the United States. Amid the grandeur, it was Princess Catherine who stole the show, captivating guests and observers alike with her elegance and timeless style.

In attendance were King Charles III, Queen Camilla, William, the Prince of Wales, the Princess of Wales, and other senior royals. Known for uniting contemporary style with centuries of royal tradition, Princess Catherine wore a custom gown by British couturier Phillipa Lepley. The design featured a silk crepe base with a floor-length coat of gold Chantilly lace, creating a luminous, regal effect as she moved through Windsor’s grand rooms.

Her jewels carried profound historical resonance. She chose Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara, a diamond and pearl piece once cherished by Diana, Princess of Wales, and now closely associated with Catherine herself. Complementing the tiara were earrings once owned by Queen Elizabeth II, a quiet tribute to Britain’s late monarch.

Across her gown, the Princess displayed the Royal Family Orders of both Elizabeth II and King Charles, along with the star and sash of the Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order. These symbols of service highlighted her central role in the monarchy’s public duties.

Having first worn a tiara at her 2011 wedding, the Princess has since selected from four royal headpieces. Yet, the Lover’s Knot remains her signature choice, a jewel linking past, present, and future generations of the royal family.

In July 2025, she wore the same tiara at the state banquet for French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron, her first such outing since undergoing cancer treatment. Following her announcement of remission in January 2025, her return to these high-profile duties carried particular significance.

The first glimpse of her banquet look came later in the evening through an official photograph released on the Prince and Princess of Wales’s social media platforms. The caption, which read, “Ready for The State Banquet,” credited photographer Matt Porteous and quickly spread across media outlets worldwide.

The image showed the couple standing sweetly together in their white-tie attire, poised and composed as they prepared to host guests of global importance. The state visit itself included far more than the banquet. Earlier that day, the Prince and Princess of Wales joined King Charles and Queen Camilla in formally welcoming the American president and first lady to Windsor.

The Lover’s Knot Tiara Catherine donned for the special night is one of the most iconic pieces in the British royal jewelry collection. Commissioned in 1914 by Queen Mary, it was created by Garrard, the Crown Jeweler, as a replica of a tiara owned by her grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse. The design features diamond arches, each topped with a pearl drop, and was set in silver and gold.

Queen Mary passed the tiara down to her granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth II, who later loaned it to Princess Diana as a wedding gift in 1981. Although Diana often wore it, she reportedly found it heavy and sometimes uncomfortable. After her death, the tiara was returned to the royal collection.

Today, the tiara has been worn most notably by Princess Catherine, keeping its status as one of the most recognized and beloved royal jewels.
