Catherine, Princess of Wales, received a warm welcome from her loved ones after completing the Three Peaks Challenge, an effort to highlight life after cancer and raise money for The Royal Marsden, the hospital where she underwent treatment.
On the weekend of June 27 and 28, 2026, Catherine conquered the United Kingdom’s three tallest peaks —Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, and Yr Wyddfa, or Snowdon, in Wales — within a demanding 24-hour period.
Across the course of the endurance challenge, the Princess walked a total of 23 miles and gained 3,064 meters in elevation, while also covering 462 miles between the different locations. Her journey included travel from Scotland to England and then into Wales, with transport arranged by a team from Kensington Palace.
She completed the challenge on her own, with Mountain Rescue teams providing assistance along the way. At the foot of Yr Wyddfa, she was met by her husband, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, her parents Carole and Michael Middleton, and her brother James, who were there to celebrate her achievement.
After completing half of the challenge on the evening of June 27, the princess shared a photo on social media at the summit of Ben Nevis to mark her efforts. The picture showed Catherine standing with her hands on a rockhold in muggy weather, but with a broad, satisfied smile on her face. She donned full climbing gear, including a waterproof parka, a backpack with trail poles sticking up behind her, and a dark cap. Also visible was her blue sapphire engagement ring, which previously belonged to Diana, Princess of Wales.

In the social media post, Princess Catherine made clear her intention behind undergoing the challenge.
“Every year, hundreds of thousands of people in this country hear the words no one wants to hear. What follows is a path that tests every part of who we are: physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. The challenges ripple outwards, touching families, friendships, work and the quiet moments we spend alone with our thoughts,” she wrote.
Acknowledging that the cancer “journey through and beyond treatment requires more than medicine alone,” she explained that she undertook the challenge “not simply as a physical endeavour but as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back.”
She made clear what she wanted to highlight with her efforts.
She made clear what she wanted to highlight with her efforts, including how the proceeds from the challenge would benefit The Royal Marsden, “a place that holds great meaning for me and whose care and expertise are life changing for so many people.”
“I want to raise awareness for the deeper impact of serious illness and the importance of holistic healthcare. Every individual is different, and ensuring there is a whole person approach to care enables those living through cancer to manage the deeply personal challenge of diagnosis.”
She added that healing was “not just about fixing what is wrong” but about “finding balance in how we live. Between effort and acceptance, between control and trust, between thinking and simply being. Because in the end, bravery isn’t just about pushing forward. It is about knowing how to stay grounded, connected and present, no matter the terrain, or landscape you are walking through.”
She ended the post by stressing the importance of community in the healing journey.
“Together, we can stand alongside everyone navigating life with cancer, ensuring no one faces this disease feeling unseen or unsupported.”
