Princess Beatrice Doesn’t Need The Queen’s Permission To Get Married

Some blood relations to the Queen must ask for her permission in order to get married, but that does not go for direct blood relation Princess Beatrice. As the Queen’s granddaughter, it is a surprising fact since her other grandchildren Prince William and Prince Harry needed to do so.

But because of a recent update to royal rules, Princess Beatrice may be able to marry her boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi without approaching the Queen at all.

The pomp and circumstance that surround a royal wedding usually capture the world’s attention, from the story of the engagement to the lavish spectacle that is the ceremony itself. In fact, Nielsen Ratings counted a huge amount of 29 million people who watched Meghan and Harry’s 2018 wedding.

But before that big event could officially happen, Harry had to formally ask his grandmother, the Queen, for permission to wed Meghan. In royal fashion, she gave it to him in an official document. The Royal Marriages Act 1772 act had required the consent of the reigning monarch for royal family members to wed.

However, the act was updated in 2013 and now only the six members closest to the throne need to ask, according to the BBC. So now that only includes Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, and Prince Harry.

The birth of Prince Harry’s son Archie earlier this year knocked Princess Beatrice down to 9th in line for the throne, so it seems the monarch’s permission to wed is just one piece of paperwork she won’t have to worry about.

It was the same story for Beatrice's sister Princess Eugenie. She also got married in 2018, to her beau Jack Brooksbank and didn’t need permission from Queen Elizabeth.
