Princess Anne To Make History By Following In Prince Philip’s Footsteps

There have been quite a few changes in the royal family and their duties in the past year as the family has been faced with a number of challenges. After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their royal departure in March 2020, many pieces were left out of place as the family worked at figuring out how to move forward. At first, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were able to hold onto some titles and patronages, despite stepping back as senior royal family members, but that has since changed.

The couple was officially stripped of any titles they held in early 2021, and their responsibilities and obligations are currently being redistributed to other members of the royal family. In April 2021, the family was hit with yet another challenge, as they grieved the death of Prince Philip. Since then, Queen Elizabeth II has been carrying on her own obligations, with the help of other family members. Kate Middleton is reported to be taking on Harry’s former rugby honorary patronages, another noble step for the woman married to Prince William

As the family has continued to grieve and move forward, they have begun redistributing the current responsibilities within Buckingham Palace. Princess Anne, the daughter of the Queen and Philip, is set to make history by following in her late father’s footsteps as she is reported to be taking on one of his previous titles. Not only would Anne be making history with the new role, but she would also be honoring and carrying on her late father’s legacy.

With many hardships and challenges stirring within the royal family in the past year, they have been faced with a few changes moving forward. Good to Know reported that as of Aug. 2, 2021, Anne is among those in contention to receive her late father’s former title of Captain General Royal Marines. This would be the first time a woman has ever held the post.

Harry had inherited the title from Philip back in 2017 but lost it after being stripped of his military position following his royal exit. This redistribution, along with the other titles and patronages previously held by Harry and Meghan, was reported to be the “emotional” change that sparked the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

According to Good to Know, Anne is already a patron of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. She is also the Commodore-in-Chief of Portsmouth. The Sunday Times reported that the daughter of the Queen and Philip is alleged to be taking on the title of Captain General Royal Marines and that Anne claimed she was “very keen” to take on the role.

Not only would Anne be making history by taking on this prestigious military title, but she would also be honoring her late father. The Duke of Edinburgh had held the position for 64 years until retiring from his public duties in 2017 when he passed it on to his grandson. Anne and Philip had shared a close bond, and Anne has been sure to show her immense amount of respect for him since his passing while carrying on his memory and legacy.
