Prince William Stuns Emotional Fans Holding Vigil For Diana Outside Kensington Palace

Prince William made a surprise appearance outside Kensington Palace to speak with fans hosting a vigil in honor of the late Princess Diana’s birthday. Fans were stunned when Prince William walked up to greet them and shake their hands. 

On Monday, vigil gatherers had been outside Kensington Palace since 5:30 a.m. to honor Princess Diana’s birthday according to The Daily Mail. The late royal would have been turning 58 years old. In 1997, Diana was tragically killed in a car accident in Paris, her death shocked the world, over 20 years later, people are still paying tribute to her life.

So when Prince William walked up to the gatherers, it became quite an emotional event. “'William told me he knew we'd been coming here for years and thanked us for what we were doing for his mother,' said John Loughrey, a fan from south-west London to The Daily Mail. 'I'm still shaking now. I feel very emotional,' he added. William was also quoted saying that he thought it was “wonderful” they were honoring his mother’s legacy and life.

William also revealed to the crowd where they would be unveiling a statue of Diana. Towards the gardens at Kensington Palace, he pointed and said, “Soon, very soon. We just want to make sure it is right. It's important to get it right.”

William eventually had to leave as the crowd started to grow but not before shaking the hands of the group who had put together the vigil for his mother. Loughrey also said they hold a vigil in honor of Diana because “she was born with two hearts, one for her and one for us. People must never forget that.”
