Prince William & Princess Catherine’s Move To New Home Branded ‘Disappointing’ By Locals

In 2025, Prince William and Princess Catherine officially settled into Forest Lodge in Windsor, a property that is expected to be their permanent family residence. The relocation marked another carefully considered decision in the couple’s ongoing efforts to balance royal responsibilities with family life.
Their earlier move from Kensington Palace in London to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor in 2022 allowed them to test a quieter, more family-oriented environment. Since then, their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, have been attending Lambrook School, located just a short drive away. The Windsor setting, both serene and accessible, gives the family the space they’ve long desired while keeping them within easy reach of the capital.
Speaking at the Irish Guards’ St. Patrick’s Day parade in March 2023, Princess Catherine explained: “We are in Windsor at the moment. We were in London but moved there for more green space. It’s close enough to London, not too far away.”
That decision to prioritize the outdoors and a slower pace of life has continued to shape their choices – including this most recent move.
Windsor also places the Wales family closer to Princess Catherine’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, who live in nearby Bucklebury and have remained deeply involved in the lives of their grandchildren. This proximity has proven invaluable over the past few years of personal challenges.
After relocating to Adelaide Cottage, the family faced a period of loss and transition when Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Sept. 8, 2022. The ascension of King Charles III brought new responsibilities for Prince William as heir to the throne. Two years later, in 2024, the family again faced adversity when both Princess Catherine and King Charles were diagnosed with cancer.
While Charles continued to undergo treatment, the Princess of Wales shared hopeful news in January 2025, announcing that she was in remission.

As reported by PEOPLE in August 2025, a Kensington Palace spokesperson stated:
“The Wales family will move house later this year.”
According to The Telegraph, the Prince and Princess of Wales completed the said move with their three children to Forest Lodge during the autumn school half-term, marking a new chapter for the royal family. Situated just four miles from their previous residence, Forest Lodge is considerably larger than Adelaide Cottage, boasting eight bedrooms to Adelaide’s four. The Georgian-era home was built in the 1770s and acquired by the Crown Estate in 1829.
Security around the estate has also been significantly strengthened. The Times reported that a 2.3-mile protective perimeter had been established around the property, restricting access to certain areas of Windsor Great Park. Residents, who regularly use the Cranbourne Gate entrance for walks and parking, complained about the restrictions, with one telling The Sun:
“Many of us have been walking our dogs here for 20 years, so to be told we can’t any more is a kick in the teeth.”
Another local who used to visit the area with his dog was more understanding:
“Obviously, it’s disappointing as my dog loves it here... But I completely understand that the safety of William, Kate and their family is paramount…”
The move to Forest Lodge represented not only a physical change but also a deeply personal renewal for the family after years of upheaval. Despite its grandeur, the Wales family will continue their tradition of maintaining a modest household structure, opting not to have live-in staff. Their trusted nanny, Maria Turrion Borrallo, and other staff members will reside in nearby properties on the Windsor estate.
