Prince William & Princess Catherine Delighted Fans With Candid Behind-The-Scenes Family Portrait At Trooping The Colour

Aug 05, 2025 by apost team

Trooping the Colour is one of the most popular events in the royal engagements calendar. Bringing together hints of summer, celebration and our favorite members of the royal family, Trooping the Colour is a fan favorite for royal watchers. While much of the attention from 2025’s Trooping the Colour was rightly focused on the Princess of Wales’s triumphant return to public life amid ongoing health challenges and her announcing that she is now in remission, Trooping the Colour is a formal engagement held annually to celebrate the monarch’s official birthday. However, King Charles’s actual birthday is November 14th.

Prince William wore his military attire for the event and arrived on horseback, while Princess Catherine and the children rode in a glass coach to the Horse Guards Parade, where the military pageantry unfolded in full splendor. Prince George and Prince Louis donned dark suits and red ties while their mother and sister made a statement in matching aquamarine.

Princess Catherine and Princess Charlotte also paid tribute to the late Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II through their fashion choices. Catherine’s aquamarine coat dress was from her late mother-in-law Princess Diana’s favorite designer, Catherine Walker, and she paired it with a chic wide-brimmed hat by Juliette Botterill. Charlotte, on the other hand, wore a cute blue dress accessorized with the Diamond Horseshoe brooch, a gift from the late Queen Elizabeth II. The young princess also wore the same brooch to her great-grandmother’s funeral in 2022.

In the wake of this year’s Trooping the Colour celebrations, the Prince and Princess of Wales have delighted royal watchers with a newly released family photograph offering a rare glimpse of the two and their children on their official Instagram account. Shared on social media, the portrait featured Prince William and Princess Catherine with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, smiling into the camera as they posed for an informal photograph.

The release of this new image added a deeply personal touch to the day’s events. The photo, published shortly after the annual military parade, showcased a more private side of royal life, one grounded in family and home. It is somewhat different from the more formal pictures of William, Catherine and their children as they joined the rest of their family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. They followed up the picture with a caption thanking all those who had participated in the day’s festivities.

“Another brilliant day at Trooping the Colour for His Majesty's Birthday Parade,” the caption read. “Thank you to everybody who came, and to all those who took part.”

Fans of the royal family instantly took to social media to share their thoughts on the adorable family picture, with one writing:

“What a beautiful family!! Such a lovely photo and hope you all had a wonderful day.”

Another user expressed their admiration for the picture, even declaring it the “picture of the day.”

“Picture of the day 👑. Such an amazing and beautiful family 😍. We love you so much 🥰❤️✨” they gushed.

We can’t wait to see more of the royals on social media and as they attend further engagements as a family!
