On April 27, 2021, Prince William and Kate Middleton went back to their royal duties and visited the Cheesy Waffles Project in Durham, England. The organization tries to help and teach children and young adults with learning disabilities and other special needs and offers a wide range of courses, classes and self-help projects. The money for all those possibilities comes from official grants, donations, and fundraising organizations such as The Key.

This UK charity, focusing on young children, teens and young adults, was one of the charities that benefited from William and Kate's wedding fund. So on Tuesday, William and Kate were able to see firsthand how the money they raised helped teens and children in County Durham.

The Cheesy Waffles Project offers sports classes as part of its many available courses. So the royal couple took to the modest green and had a wonderful time putting some balls. This experience with golfing lessons had resulted in some hilarious fails that made the audience laugh. Kate and William also talked to the farmers who live in the area about the difficulties of rural life in the current circumstances.

During their visit, William was able to pay a small and touching tribute to his late grandfather while speaking to the young people about their Duke of Edinburgh Awards. After his grandfather's death, William has found many ways to remember and pay tribute to the late Prince Philip, whose work with charities and the Duke of Edinburgh awards has made a major difference in many people's lives.

On Friday, April 9, Philip passed away at the age of 99 years old. The Royal Family scheduled a funeral that took place on Saturday, April 17, and had a limited number of guests due to the current coronavirus pandemic. Since his death, there have been a number of ways that the family continues to keep his memory alive. William and Kate also visited the Air Cadets at 282 East Ham Squadron in London to pay tribute to Philip's military service and patronage work. William took the opportunity to remember his grandfather again while in Durham.

The Mirror reports that while talking to Evan Jones, 18, and Lee Middleton, 23, who had both earned their gold award through the Duke of Edinburgh Award program, William made a touching reference to Prince Philip.

“Do you know he was my grandfather?,” he asked them. "Sadly he died a few weeks ago. He would have been so pleased that you got your awards."

During their visit to Durham, the weather was slightly windy but otherwise fine when Duchess Kate and Prince William arrived at the Cheesy Waffles Project on April 27. The project describes its work on its website as:

"Members have the opportunity to take part in residentials, trips away, shopping excursions, meals out, sports activities, cookery programmes, wellbeing, performing arts and more. This gives an opportunity to go out without support from family, giving respite to carers but also developing independent skills.
We encourage members to engage in community work making gifts for others, working with local trusts, fundraising for chosen charities, and supporting local community projects. This encourages self-esteem and confidence and raises their profile in the local community."

In this way, the organization has helped numerous special needs children gain important life experience and skills. William and Kate's Instagram account shared a series of photos and a video of William trying his hand at a swing and added as a caption:

"Thank you to the Cheesy Waffles Project for the golf lesson 🏌️ Think we might need to come back for more...
The Cheesy Waffles Project does incredible work providing children, young people and adults with additional needs aged 7 to 35 from across County Durham with the skills and independence they need to transition to a happy and healthy adulthood."

Judging by the smiling faces and the laughter the royal couple shared, they very much enjoyed their visit. The reactions of the children in the video make it clear that they also enjoyed the chance to teach the two some golf moves.

The royal couple also spent some time talking to the family that runs Manor Farm near Darlington, in the county of Durham. The farm has been run by the same family for 145 years, and William and Kate were seen intently listening as the family spoke about the difficulties that come with rural life according to the Mirror

Their visit was just two days before their 10th wedding anniversary on the 29th of April. As part of the celebration of such an important milestone, the couple released two new photographs on their official Instagram account. While it remains to be seen how the couple will celebrate the day, it is certainly a special day for them. We wish the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge a very happy anniversary!
