In a photo taken on April 27, 2021, Prince William can be seen behaving like a perfect gentleman to Kate Middleton as they arrived in County Durham. The photo was captured while the royal couple was leaving Teesside airport and the moment was caught by Ben Houchen on Twitter. Houchen said of the couple’s trip, “They were out visiting some farms just outside of Darlington.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were visiting local farms and also visited The Cheesy Waffles Project, which is a registered charity for children, young people and adults with additional needs from the county of Durham. The events were the first official in-person engagements away from London the couple has attended since the pandemic.

The prince’s chivalrous actions were captured just a couple of days before the couple’s tenth wedding anniversary on April 29. In the photo, Middleton can be seen happily waving to a group of people while Prince William can be seen holding her bag. The pair both looked relaxed and happy to be outdoors and finally getting back to normal activities.

As part of their engagement, the couple visited the Manor Farm near Darlington according to Hello Magazine. They were given tours by Clare Wise and Stewart Chapman who explained the farm’s mission of focusing on the health and wellbeing of their livestock. They also explained how they work to boost both productivity and sustainability. Middleton and Prince William also heard from local farmers that are supported by the National Union of Farmers. They spoke about their experiences over this past difficult year and shared how they have been balancing homeschooling and getting back to work.

Houchen posted the photo of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on his Twitter account along with the caption, “We were delighted to welcome The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Teesside Airport this morning. William and Middleton flew into Teesside to attend their first official in-person engagement away from London this year. We’re so proud to support the Royal Family at Teesside Airport.” Houchen is the Tees Valley Mayor.

Middleton was dressed in dark skinny jeans and a cream-colored Fair Isle style sweater. She also wore tall brown boots and looked relaxed and happy throughout the day. The Prince was dressed in a blue sweater and was later seen wearing a green padded jacket. He had on sturdy boots and carried a red laptop, along with Middleton’s bag.

The Cheesy Waffles Project is a charity organization that came onto Middleton and Prince William’s radar after they were involved with The Key, one of the charities that were selected as a beneficiary of their Royal Wedding Charitable Gift Fund. Members of The Cheesy Waffles Project take part in trips away, shopping excursions, meals out, sports activities, cookery programs, wellbeing, performing arts and more as per their website.

The organization relies on donations, grants and fundraising events to provide children, young people and adults with special needs the opportunity to go out and gain the life skills they need to gain independence while giving their caregivers a break as well. Middleton and Prince William got to meet with individuals that are directly involved in the program. In one photo, Middleton can be seen giving an elbow bump to one of the charity’s participants.

During their visit to Manor Farm, the duke and duchess were given the opportunity to drive one of the tractors. Hello! Magazine reports that farmer Stewart Chapman said this afterward, “They were both very good. William mentioned how the GPS technology was used in helicopters so he understood how it worked. They both wanted a go and didn't need any persuasion. Once they got used to it, it was fine. There was no drama. Both very keen and very knowledgeable." It probably isn’t every day that the royal couple gets the opportunity to drive a tractor.

Prince William and Middleton also had the opportunity to speak with recipients of the gold Duke of Edinburgh awards. The Prince said this, “Do you know he was my grandfather? Sadly he died a few weeks ago. He would have been so pleased that you got your awards." It was a nice tribute for Prince Phillip and shows a truly royal temperament from the Duke of Cambridge.

The couple’s visit to County Durham was just a couple of days after they had taken their three children to the new Sandringham play park on the Queen’s Norfolk estate. The playground was built with Middleton’s mindset that young children should be encouraged to immerse themselves in nature.

This busy week continues for the royal couple as they celebrate their milestone 10th anniversary on April 29. The couple was married in Westminster Abbey back in 2011 with Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton serving as best man and maid of honor. The wedding was highly publicized around the world.
