Queen Elizabeth II created quite the royal family for herself, as she had four children, eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. However, tragically, Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Sept. 8th, 2022. She passed away while at her home in Balmoral after Buckingham Palace had earlier announced that she was under medical attention.
Immediately following Queen Elizabeth II's death, her son and heir, Charles, became King Charles III. With King Charles III moving from royal heir to king, he announced that several members of the royal family's titles had changed. The children are now second, third, and fourth in line for the royal throne. Their titles have also changed compared to the titles they were given at birth.
Prince William and Kate Middleton moved from Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Prince and Princess of Wales. Their three children also took on new titles. Originally the great-grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II were titled Prince George of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, and Prince Louis of Cambridge. However, the three will now be titled Prince George of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales, and Prince Louis of Wales.
Following the queen's death, it wasn't just the title that changed. According to CNN, King Charles III and his heir, Prince William, inherited the late monarch's personal fortune and property. According to CNN, the family's wealth is nearly $21 billion in land, property, and investments. With all of this passed down to King Charles III and Prince William, the Prince is a much wealthier man as well as owns a lot more property than ever before.

According to CNN Business, Prince William has now inherited the Dutchy Cornwall estate from his father. This estate owns a large and diverse portfolio of land and property covering nearly 140,000 acres. The estate was established back in 1337 by King Edward III and is estimated to be $1.2 billion dollars. The revenue of the estate is "used to fund the public, private and charitable activities," according to CNN.
King Charles III did inherit the largest portion of the family's fortune, which was $19 billion dollars from the Crown Estate. The rest of Queen Elizabeth II's estate of nearly $500 million remains unknown because the wills of the royal family are never disclosed to the public.
Eventually, when Prince William becomes king, the family estate will be passed onto him and his heir, Prince George. In King Charles III's first speech, he said, "Today, I am proud to create him [William] Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty. With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the center ground where vital help can be given."
The royal family has experienced a lot of change within the last year between Prince Phillip passing away and now Queen Elizabeth II. The new heir to the throne, Prince William, is also experiencing a change in his own life aside from a title change and losing his grandmother.

Released in August of 2022, a senior royal source told ABC News that the royal couple wants to give their children a normal upbringing by moving out of London and into the countryside of Berkshire. "As the children get older and more independent you can see why they would feel they have more breathing space in Windsor," the source shared. Not only is the cottage more family-friendly compared to Kensington Palace, but it is also closer to Kate's family.
"This move puts them much closer to the Middletons and Kate is very close to her family," the source shared. "It also emulates in many ways the upbringing (Kate) had in rural Berkshire, which she has spoken fondly of and I think has always had a big influence over how the Cambridges have shaped their family life."
The royal great-grandchildren will now be attending Lambrook School, which is one of the country's leading prep schools. According to ABC News, Jonathan Perry, headmaster of the school, shared this statement, "We are delighted that Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis will be joining us this coming September and very much look forward to welcoming the family, as well as all of our new pupils, to our school community."
The four-bedroom home was originally built in 1831 and was known for being a tea house for Queen Adelaide. According to Vogue, in 1941, the cottage became a home that the queen lent to royal family members or staff. The home is only big enough for the royal family and has no live-in staff.
