Prince William And Prince Harry Have Reportedly 'Turned A New Page' After Royal Feud

The past few years have been especially tumultuous for the royal family. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced in January 2020 that they would be taking a step back from their roles as senior royals, the couple moved to Southern California and the duo openly criticized the royal family in multiple interviews. Following these developments, royal experts have speculated that a rift has grown between Harry and his brother, Prince William.
William and Harry reunited for the first time since Prince Philip’s April funeral ceremony at Windsor Castle on July 1, coming together at Kensington Palace to commemorate and unveil a statue of their mother, Princess Diana, on what would have been her 60th birthday. Given the apparent distance that has grown between Harry and the royal family, the event was also notable in that it saw the Duke of Sussex return to his home country — albeit briefly — to be with his brother and other members of the royal family.
At Princess Diana's statue unveiling, many fans were thus curious if the brotherly tension would send sparks flying. But reports of the July 1 unveiling have commented on the event’s low-key character and the brothers’ friendliness toward one another. What’s more, an exclusive July 7 US Weekly report quotes a source who claims that the statue unveiling was a turning point in the two brothers’ relationship and that they have started to put their differences aside. Although Harry returned to the U.S. on July 2, it’s likely that he will fly to the U.K. in September for another Diana memorial event.

The official statue of Diana — unveiled by the two brothers on July 1 — is located at the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace, a spot that is said to have been her favorite on the grounds. The Guardian reports that the statue has been in the works since 2017, when plans were announced on Diana’s 20th death anniversary. Until this July, the main unofficial memorial to the late princess has been a fountain in Hyde Park in London.
“William and Harry spent the morning before the statue unveiling looking through old keepsakes, notes from Diana and bonding,” an anonymous source reportedly told US Weekly of the ceremony. “They have absolutely turned a new page in their relationship and have started the healing. Everyone around them was thrilled to see how close they were on the day of the statue unveiling.”
Daniela Ralph, the BBC’s royal correspondent, had a similarly rosy analysis.
“It was professional and friendly and gave no obvious sense of the tensions behind the scenes. There was even laughter between the brothers as they prepared to unveil the bronze statue,” Ralph wrote in her commentary of the event.
“They don't want the day to be about their own broken relationship. They want it to be about their mother and her legacy,” she added.
The brothers’ official statement, which was delivered jointly, also showed that William and Harry were willing to work together to honor their late mother.
"Today, on what would have been our mother's 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character — qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better,” William and Harry wrote in their statement.

"Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy,” they continued.
The new statue, sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadley, shows Diana with short hair accompanied by three children. In front, a paving stone is engraved with words inspired by the poem “The Measure of Man.”
“Diana, Princess of Wales was an icon who touched the lives of people right around the world so it has been a privilege to work alongside Prince William and Prince Harry on this statue which commemorates her life,” Rank-Broadley said of his work.
Princess Diana was universally loved not only by the British public but also by people the world over. She used her influence to push for reforms and spread awareness, spending much of her time campaigning for humanitarian causes that improved the lives of others. She sat with people who were ill, helping to break the stigma of the then-new disease AIDS. These are the reasons she became known as the "People's Princess" — she was a shining beacon of light in the royal family.
It's been nearly 24 years since she tragically passed away in a car accident in Paris, but she still continues to inspire those who follow the royal family. This is a testament to how much the public adored her, and she's still often talked about and even featured in the media — whether for her charitable deeds or fashion sense.
On July 4, The Sun reported that Harry might return to the U.K. in September for another Diana event — and this time, Meghan might join him.
