Prince William And Kate Middleton Unveil Their First Official Joint Portrait & It’s Stunning

The entire world watched on Apr. 29, 2011, when Prince William and Kate Middleton wed in a beautiful ceremony at Westminster Abbey, London. The heavily publicized wedding prompted all kinds of celebrations, including street parties across England, William and Kate merchandise and plenty of speculation about how the royal couple would navigate their roles as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. 

The couple is particularly prominent in the royal family, given that William is second in line to the throne after his father, Prince Charles, the Duke of Wales. At the time of their marriage, the couple had been together for eight years after they started dating when they were both students at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, where the two completed their undergraduate degrees. 

A lot has happened since those days, including the couple's official engagement announcement on Nov. 16, 2010, followed by their wedding, which took place more than 11 years ago. They have also started a beautiful family of their own consisting of their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The couple has been very prominent in their native United Kingdom, where they are full-time working royals, while they also contribute philanthropically through their official charity fund.

In 2021, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge celebrated one decade of marriage, which they honored by releasing unseen photos of themselves from their time as a married couple. On June 23, 2022, the beautiful couple released their first-ever joint portrait together. According to Town & Country, Kate met William at the University of St. Andrew's, where the two enrolled in 2001. The prince famously watched a charity fashion show that featured Kate. The relationship moved fairly quickly, and the two moved in together in a shared apartment; however, it wasn't until 2004 that their relationship was out in the open. It was then that someone from the press snapped a photo of the two together while they were on a ski trip, which led to widespread knowledge of their once private relationship.

It might seem hard to imagine now, but there was a time when the couple actually separated for a brief period in 2007, as reported by Town & Country. But the couple was meant to be, and it wasn't too long before they got back together. One year after their break up, the duo was spotted on another ski trip, and just two years later, they announced their engagement. In a bittersweet touch, the engagement ring that William proposed to Middleton with that of his late mother, Princess Diana.

In April 2021, William and Kate reached a milestone in their relationship – they hit the 10-year anniversary of their marriage! To mark the special occasion, they issued two new official portraits. 

Photographed by Chris Floyd, the pictures featured the couple outside of Kensington Palace. The photos were shared on the royal family's social media accounts. The first photo saw the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge sitting and holding hands as William looked at Kate lovingly. The second photo showed the two embracing and smiling widely at the camera as the duchess nestled into William's shoulder. Both images only highlighted how in love they really were and still are to this day.

Alongside posting the photos, the royal family Instagram account captioned the post, "Wishing The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge a very happy wedding anniversary." William's father and step-mother (Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall) also wished the couple a happy anniversary via their official Twitter account, and alongside their caption, they included a celebratory party popper emoji. 

In 2022, both William and Kate reached another milestone, but this time in their personal lives. Kate turned 40 years old on Jan. 9, 2022, while William turned 40 on June 21, 2022. The couple is even planning on having a joint party together, despite the fact that their birthdays fall so far apart.

The happy couple also shared another celebratory occasion together by releasing their first-ever joint portrait. According to the Fine Art Commissions, the "first official portrait" of William and Kate was unveiled on June 22, 2022, at The Fitzwilliam Museum. The portrait was painted by Jamie Coreth.

On Instagram, Fine Art Commissions posted a photograph of the portrait of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The caption read:

"@fineartcommissions is proud to announce the unveiling of this wonderful double portrait of TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, by @jrcoreth

Commissioned by the Cambridgeshire Royal Portrait Fund the painting will be on display @fitzmuseum_uk for an initial period of three years, after which the artwork will be exhibited in other community spaces and galleries around Cambridgeshire, as well as being loaned to @nationalportraitgallery in 2023 to mark the Gallery's opening."
