The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Prince William and Kate Middleton were on a very eventful tour of Pakistan recently. On top of their many royal duties, the pair also had to contend with a turbulent flight between two Pakistani cities. Once safely on the ground again, they took a trip to visit military dogs, a perfect stress-reliever.

There were many highlights of the royals’ week-long trip to Pakistan including a game of cricket and visits to schools, sites affected by climate change, a mosque, and more according to People. One sudden change in their closely scheduled itinerary however, was the change to an inter-city flight that was only meant to be twenty minutes.

Instead, their RAF jet hit an electrical storm flying to Islamabad from Lahore and the couple and the rest of the passengers experienced a bout of turbulence. The jet had to turn around and land at their original airport of Lahore, and the experience totaled about 18 hours according to People. They eventually made it to Islamabad the next afternoon and their first stop was perfect after a harrowing experience—visiting military dogs.

The bomb-detecting canines were an adorable distraction for the couple; the enjoyment was clearly written on their faces as they hung out with the dogs. They also watched some pups complete an agility course at the Army Canine Centre, and learned that the incredible dogs had found 19 tons of explosives and 700 homemade bombs in the past three years.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are now back in England with their three children, George, Charlotte, and Louis, who were being taken care of by their nanny and Kate’s parents reports People.

“It’s been fantastic,” Kate told CNN about the tour. “We’ve seen a lot of Pakistan, a huge variety. It was amazing seeing some of the geography, but then to see the communities like this has been really special.”
