Prince William and Kate Middleton are some of the most beloved members of the royal family. When they wed in 2011, the couple had been together for several years. They started dating at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, where the two completed their undergraduate degrees. Since then, the couple has been busy building a family that now includes 4-year-old Prince Louis, 7-year-old Princess Charlotte and 9-year-old Prince George. Additionally, the prince and princess are prominent public figures in the United Kingdom who contribute to numerous philanthropic efforts — when they aren’t taking care of their brood or posing for photos, that is.
With 11 years of marriage under their belt, fans remain interested in all the details about the couple, especially in terms of their parenting. With such a prime spot in the public eye, it was only time until people began to notice the ways in which the Prince and Princess of Wales acted toward their three adorable children. Throughout their many outings and interactions as a family, the royal couple has shown nothing but love, affection and support for each other and their kids.
After Queen Elizabeth II's death in September 2022, experts and amateurs alike eagerly watched to see how the family would handle all the protocol and exposure. Many chimed in with their analysis of the couple's interactions with their children. Jo Frost, a parenting expert, commented on Sept. 19, 2022, on how William and Kate had handled the family tragedy. She noted how the funeral required "a careful decision (from William and Kate)…regarding their (children's) attendance."

From making sure their children are seen by making eye contact with them to keeping them protected from the cameras by shielding them, Kate and William have shown time and time again that they are incredible parents to their children, and even though they are royalty, they are surprisingly normal parents as well.
While William and Kate are thoroughly aware of their privileged status, they make sure their kids are raised in a down-to-earth manner. A source close to the royal family told Us Weekly, “William and Kate very much prioritize bringing up the children in as normal an environment as possible over anything else. … They haven’t lost sight of that.”
While three young children can be a handful at one time, Kate has proven time and again that she is not only up to the challenge but thrives on it. In 2017, she gave some insights into her personal feelings about motherhood, “Nothing can really prepare you for you the sheer overwhelming experience of what it means to become a mother. It is full of complex emotions of joy, exhaustion, love, and worry, all mixed together. Your fundamental identity changes overnight. You go from thinking of yourself as primarily an individual to suddenly being a mother, first and foremost. And yet there is no rule book, no right or wrong — you just have to make it up and do the very best you can to care for your family.” The couple handles the majority of the usual responsibilities, such as school runs, themselves.

In an effort to give their children a normal upbringing, the couple takes turns dropping off George at school. They also limit George’s TV time to one hour a day and have him follow a typical British school curriculum.
Additionally, William and Kate also have the added difficulty of having to prepare their children for their life as royals. As such, the kids will increasingly have to participate in public events and even as children, they will have to be ready for life in the public eye.
The little royals got some training during the queen's Jubilee celebrations, a move which parenting expects now praise William and Kate for making. Parenting expert Jo Frost wrote on Instagram how "their stamina and orderly conduct" then prepared the little ones for the formality of their grandmother's funeral.
Another expert Stephanie Wallis, in speaking to FEMAIL, also commented on how the couple divided parenting duties during the funeral. She observed how Kate seemed to take on the more "dominant parenting role at the funeral, staying closer to the children and giving them gentle directions when needed," allowing her husband to focus on his duties as son and heir.
Moreover, Wallis commented, "Both parents remained calm and natural, both in their own behaviours but also towards their children…There were no forced interactions with their children and they gracefully took everything in their stride."
Their fortitude as parents during this difficult time is admirable and will surely prepare their three little ones for royal life and the challenges to come.
