The moment Prince William’s cousins, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice of York showed up at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, everyone on social media was talking about their outfits. People who were watching the live transmission of the royal wedding thought Beatrice and Eugenie looked a lot like Cinderella’s evil stepsisters. All those comments about the sister’s outfit choices might have been the reason why they dressed way more subtle at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.

As soon as Prince William and Kate Middleton had announced their engagement, people were dying to find out what kind of dress Kate would be wearing for her big day. Kate Middleton eventually chose the creative director at Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton, to design her wedding dress.

As shoulders and arms have to be covered in church according to the royal protocol Kate appeared in a long-sleeved lace dress that was inspired by Grace Kelly’s wedding dress from 1956. Everybody was blown away by Kate’s wedding gown and many bridal shops soon sold knock-offs the dress.

Pippa’s Big Moment

Pippa, Kate Middleton’s younger sister was the maid of honor at the royal wedding and had all heads turning as her best features were perfectly accentuated when she helped adjust Kate’s train. Ever since the wedding fans of the royal family have been curious about Pippa and have started to keep up with her private life as well. By now Pippa, too, is married and is the mother of a one-year-old boy.

The Wedding Ring

Compared to Kate’s sapphire engagement ring that had once belonged to William’s mother, late Princess Diana, the bride’s wedding ring was quite simple. It was made out of Welsh gold, just like all royal wedding rings in the past century. William had quite a hard time putting the ring on Kate’s finger but eventually managed to do so. The prince himself, however, chose not to wear a wedding ring as he isn’t into wearing jewelry.

The Balcony Kiss

Since the wedding of Prince William’s parents, Princess Diana and Prince Charles, it has been a tradition in the royal family, that a newlywed couple makes an appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to share a second kiss after the ceremony. So did William and Kate, who leaned in for a tender kiss in front of the cheering crowd.

There was only one person who didn’t seem too excited about the balcony kiss. The goddaughter of Prince William, Grace van Cutsem, who had been one of the royal couple’s young bridesmaids, was covering her ears and had quite a grumpy look on her face as Kate and William kissed right behind her. In every picture of the newly-married couple kissing it looks as young Grace isn’t too fond of what’s happening behind her even though her unhappy expression was probably caused by her not liking the loud crowd.

Can you believe that William and Kate’s wedding was nine years ago? Let us know if you still remember watching the ceremony or the balcony kiss and be sure to wish the couple a happy anniversary in the comments.
