Today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge celebrate ten years of marriage together. Even though the pair had to shoulder the tension and stress of the last weeks following Prince Philip's death and funeral, the royal couple has delighted fans by celebrating their anniversary with an Instagram post.

We know the royal couple to be currently raising the future King of England, Prince George, as well as his siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Even though William and Kate had no current plans to commemorate this first decade of their marriage with a big party or other events, their new photographs on Instagram have been a huge hit with royal fans.

The Cambridge couple also gave back to the community ahead of their 10-year anniversary. In their second public engagements since the country’s period of mourning Prince Philip’s death, William and Middleton visited a youth project in Durham, England, where they spoke with youth who had received the Duke of Edinburgh Award, according to the BBC.

William and Middleton also visited “The Cheesy Waffle Project,” also located in Durham, which supports “young people and adults with additional needs from across County Durham,” according to the charity’s website.

The BBC reports that the youth charity is one of 26 supported by William and Middleton’s philanthropic royal wedding fund, which the couple started in 2011. The fund received its money from the many guests of the couple's wedding after the duke and duchess had let it be known that they would prefer donations to charity instead of gifts for themselves. Let's take a look back at their gorgeous wedding.

According to Town & CountryMiddleton met William at the University of St. Andrew's, where the two enrolled in 2001. In one of the most famous stories from their university days, the prince famously watched a charity fashion show that featured none other than Middleton herself. The relationship moved fairly quickly, with the two moving in together in a shared flat, but it wasn't until 2004 that the couple's relationship was out in the open. It was then that someone from the press snapped a photo of the two together while they were on a ski trip, which led to widespread knowledge of the two's once private relationship.

But the royal couple's relationship wasn't always a bed of roses.

In 2007, the two even separated for a short period of time, according to Town & Country.

"At the time I wasn't very happy about it, but it made me a stronger person," Middleton revealed in a television interview, according to The Guardian. "You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn't realized, I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you are younger and I really valued that time for me (the months apart) although I didn't think it at the time."

With that said, it didn't take long for the couple to get back together. A year after their break up, William and Middleton were spotted on another ski trip, and just two years later, the couple announced their engagement.

As soon as the announcement went out, people were dying to find out what kind of dress Kate would be wearing for her big day.

Kate Middleton eventually chose the creative director at Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton, to design her wedding dress. As shoulders and arms have to be covered in the church according to the royal protocol, Kate appeared in a long-sleeved lace dress that was inspired partially by Grace Kelly's wedding dress from 1956. Everybody was blown away by Kate's wedding gown and many bridal shops soon sold knock-offs the dress.

Compared to Kate’s sapphire engagement ring that had once belonged to William’s mother, late Princess Diana, the bride’s wedding ring was quite simple. It was made out of Welsh gold, just like all royal wedding rings in the past century. William had quite a hard time putting the ring on Kate’s finger but eventually managed to do so. The prince himself, however, chose not to wear a wedding ring as he isn’t into wearing jewelry.

Since the wedding of Prince William’s parents, Princess Diana and Prince Charles, it has been a tradition in the royal family, that a newlywed couple makes an appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to share a second kiss after the ceremony. William and Kate also followed this protocol, who leaned in for a tender kiss in front of the cheering crowd.

There was only one person who didn’t seem too excited about the balcony kiss. The goddaughter of Prince William, Grace van Cutsem, who had been one of the royal couple’s young bridesmaids, was covering her ears and had quite a grumpy look on her face as Kate and William kissed right behind her. It looks as young Grace isn’t too fond of what’s happening behind her even though her unhappy expression was probably caused by her not liking the loud crowd.

Since the wedding, the royal couple has enjoyed a long and harmonious relationship. As Hello! Magazine reported in April 2021, when asked "Who has been the greatest support to you during the pandemic?," the Duchess answered simply with Prince William's name.
