Prince William Admits He Was Trying to Move Travis Kelce Out of the Taylor Swift Selfie & His Reason Is Hilarious

Prince William went on “The Graham Norton Show” on October 23, 2026, and confessed to a crime he had been sitting on for more than two years.

The crime: trying to remove Travis Kelce from a photograph.

In June 2024, William attended Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert at Wembley Stadium with his children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, to celebrate his 42nd birthday. Backstage, Swift took a selfie with William and the children — and Travis Kelce, her then-boyfriend, appeared in the corner of the frame. Swift posted it the following morning with the caption “Happy Bday M8!” It went viral immediately, because it was also one of the first photographs Swift had ever publicly shared featuring herself and Kelce together. Their social media debut was hiding in a royal birthday selfie.

What William did not know at the time was any of that. What he did know was that there was a very large man in a baseball cap who kept getting back into his photograph.

“I was trying to move him out of the photo,” William told Graham Norton, drawing laughter from the audience. “Travis kept coming back in, and I couldn’t work out why he kept coming back in!” He added: “I was trying to move him out so it was just me and Taylor and the children!”

He confirmed he had only recently understood the photograph’s significance. “I wasn’t until recently. I hadn’t appreciated the significance.”

Kelce told William on the New Heights podcast in July 2026 that the backstage meeting had been “one of the coolest moments ever” — and confirmed he had addressed William as “Your Royal Highness” even though he had been told a formal greeting was not required.

The photograph has become one of the most referenced images in the story of Swift and Kelce’s relationship — not because of what it shows, but because of what it quietly announced. Swift had been extremely private about Kelce in the early months of their relationship. Posting a photograph of the two of them together, even in the context of a royal birthday greeting, was a statement. The future King of England was, apparently unknowingly, the vehicle for it.

William first met Swift in November 2013, when she performed at a charity concert at Kensington Palace. They have been photographed together on several occasions since — including a 2013 event where Swift, William, and Jon Bon Jovi performed “Livin’ on a Prayer” together on stage. The 2024 Eras Tour backstage meeting was a reunion of people who had known each other for more than a decade, with Kelce as the new addition to the frame that William kept trying to tidy up.

On the New Heights podcast in July 2026, William appeared as a guest alongside Travis and Jason Kelce — a somewhat surreal occasion that reflected how thoroughly the two worlds had merged. Jason confirmed he had also addressed William as “Your Royal Highness” despite being told it was unnecessary. William, for his part, appeared entirely charmed by both brothers.

William’s Graham Norton appearance covered several other topics — including Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’s obsession with “The Traitors.” He mentioned Kelce almost in passing. The audience, who knew the photograph well, laughed immediately.

He had been trying to get a picture with just Taylor Swift. He got a piece of music history instead.
