According to Metro, Prince Philip was flown from Sandringham by helicopter in order to join the Queen at their Berkshire home. The two are said to have been separated since February and it had become unclear when they would be reunited due to the growing threat of COVID-19.

The Queen herself was transferred from London to the Windsor estate on Thursday in order to self-isolate.

The 93-year-old moved to her historic Berkshire home one week earlier than initially planned and is understood to be staying there even after the Easter period is over.

She completed some of her last Royal duties before fleeing yesterday, including her weekly audience with the Prime Minister. This week, however, it was done on phone rather than in person. This is expected to be the norm for the foreseeable future.

Prince Philip has been enjoying retirement since 2017, when he stepped down from his Royal duties at the age of 95. He has since spent the majority of his time at the Royal family’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

Because of the outbreak of COVID-19, Buckingham Palace will be run with a reduced number of staff. Many public Royal events, including the annual Maundy service and Princess Beatrice’s Royal wedding reception have now been canceled.

The Queen will be following advice given by the British National Health Service (NHS) in regard to the containment of COVID-19.

According to their website, people who are over 70 years of age, have a long-term health condition, a compromised immune system or are pregnant are at higher risk and it is thus very important for them to self-isolate.
