Prince Louis Reveals the Sporting Skill Princess Charlotte Says He Has Yet to Master

Prince Louis offered a lighthearted glimpse of sibling rivalry when he discussed his efforts to master a handstand during the Wales family’s appearance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The eight-year-old attended the Games with the Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince George, 13, and Princess Charlotte, 11. The engagement marked the three children’s first official public appearance together in Scotland and Louis’ first public visit to a major sporting event.

The family watched track cycling and netball and met athletes, volunteers and representatives connected with Team Wales. Their schedule placed the children close to elite competitors while giving them opportunities to discuss the sports they enjoy at school and at home.

During a conversation with Welsh artistic gymnasts and twin sisters Abigail and Emily Roper, Catherine drew attention to Louis’ gymnastics practice.

“Louis, you’re perfecting your handstand at the moment,” she said.

“A bit,” Louis replied, before adding: “Charlotte says I’m not very good.”

Charlotte confidently said she could perform a handstand herself. William explained that his daughter “loves ballet and gymnastics,” while Catherine said Charlotte particularly enjoyed floor exercises and dancing.

The family’s relaxed exchange reflected their individual sporting interests. George was less enthusiastic about activities that require flexibility, admitting: “I’m rubbish at anything that involves flexibility.”

The children also discussed school sports. George identified the javelin as a favorite event, while Louis confirmed that he enjoyed the high jump. When Catherine asked him about it, he answered simply: “Yeah.”

The appearance gave royal watchers an unusually informal view of the siblings encouraging, teasing and speaking for one another while meeting accomplished competitors. It also showed how a formal royal engagement could produce a familiar family scene, with an older sister delivering a frank assessment and her younger brother accepting it with good humor.

The athletes at the center of the conversation had enjoyed an impressive competition. According to Commonwealth Sport, Abigail Roper earned bronze in the women’s vault, finishing narrowly ahead of Emily in fourth place. Emily then secured her own bronze medal on the uneven bars.

The University of Essex, where the sisters study Sports and Exercise Science, reported that they became the first twins to win individual artistic gymnastics medals at the same Commonwealth Games. After learning about Charlotte’s enthusiasm for gymnastics, they presented her with a Team Wales leotard signed by them both.

William, Catherine and their children also helped update a Team Wales medal board. When another result needed to be added, William playfully volunteered Louis for the task, allowing the youngest member of the family to participate in the celebration.

The Glasgow competition was the 23rd Commonwealth Games. The Royal Family’s official website reported that more than 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories competed across 10 sports and six Para sports during the 11-day event. King Charles III formally declared the Games open in a message celebrating sport, cooperation and the Commonwealth community.

For Louis, however, one of the most memorable moments required no medal or finish line. His honest response about his handstand captured the familiar dynamic between a younger brother eager to improve and an older sister ready to offer an unfiltered assessment.

Charlotte may be the family’s more confident gymnast, but Louis’ willingness to keep practicing suggests that the verdict is not final. His brief admission turned an official sporting engagement into a relatable family moment — and showed that even royal siblings can be each other’s toughest judges.
