Over the weekend, Buckingham palace revealed the finalized details of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from their roles as ‘senior Royals’. Her Majesty the Queen revealed the couple will be no longer be using their HRH titles and will cease to receive public funds for carrying out their royal duties.

The Duke of Sussex gave a speech yesterday evening at the supporters of Sentebale in London regarding the announcement. The speech saw Harry get candid about his own side of the story - a speech that is eerily similar to the one Princess Diana gave when she stepped down from Royal duties in 1993.

As the Sussexes split from the Royal family continues to make headlines, Harry gave a speech on Monday evening at a charity dinner in London where he broke his silence on the matter.

"The U.K. is my home and a place that I love. That will never change,” the Duke said. “I’ve grown up feeling supported by so many of you and I’ve watched as you welcomed Meghan with open arms as you saw me find the love and happiness that I’d hoped for all my life."

In 1993, Princess Diana spoke similarly fondly about the British public when she was the Princess of Wales.

"In the past twelve years, I can honestly say, that one of my greatest pleasures has been my association with people like yourselves."

Harry clarified that the outcome was not what he hoped for.

"Our hope was to continue serving the Queen, the Commonwealth, and my military associations, but without public funding. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible," he explained.

"I’ve accepted this, knowing that it doesn’t change who I am or how committed I am,” the Duke added. “But I hope that helps you understand what it had to come to, that I would step my family back from all I have ever known, to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life."

Princess Diana also expressed her willingness to continue being a public figure for the British crown, however, was unable to deal with the media scrutiny that went with it.

"A year ago, I spoke of my desire to continue with my work unchanged...However, life and circumstances alter and I hope you will forgive me if I use this opportunity to share with you my plans for the future which now indeed have changed," she said.

"I was not aware of how overwhelming that attention would become. Nor the extent to which it would affect both my public duties and my personal life, in a manner, that's been hard to bear."
