Prince Harry’s Recent Speech Mirrors Princess Diana's Words When She Stepped Down From Royal Life 27 Years Ago

Prince Harry has opened up since he and wife Meghan Markle announced their stepping down from the royal family. The prince gave an impassioned speech at a dinner for an organization he has worked with over the years. He spoke about what has been circulating in the tabloids and gave his side of the truth. His speech was reminiscent to that of his mother the late Princess Diana's speech when she chose to step down from royal life following her divorce from Prince Charles.

Harry started off his speech by saying, “Before I begin, I must say that I can only imagine what you may have heard or perhaps read over the last few weeks. So, I want you to hear the truth from me, as much as I can share—not as a Prince, or a Duke, but as Harry, the same person that many of you have watched grow up over the last 35 years—but with a clearer perspective.

Harry will be turning 36-years-old this year, the same age his mother was when she passed away. There was one sentence in Harry's speech where he thanked the members of the dinner and people who have worked with him over the years saying,Together, you have given me an education about living.” The words ring similar to that of Diana's 1993 speech when she announced she was stepping down from public life.

Diana said, "To the wider public, may I say that I've made many friends. I've been allowed to share your thoughts and dreams, your disappointments and your happiness. You have also given me an education. By teaching me more about life and living than any books or teachers could have done. My debt of gratitude to you all is immense. I hope, in some way, I've been of service in return.”

Harry's royal biographer, Angela Levin, stepped forward in an interview with The Telegraph saying, that the Prince was always going to fall in love with a woman like his mother, Princess Diana. In 2018 Angela Levin wrote 'Harry: Conversations with the Prince.' In the process of writing that book, she got to engage in deep conversations with Prince Harry. She said that Harry feels like his late mother is still somehow guiding him claiming that his instinct always tells him what Diana would want him to do.

After giving that speech in 1993, Diana was tragically killed in a car accident in 1997 after being pursued by the paparazzi. It's no wonder Harry is taking drastic measures to protect his own family.

Prince Harry surely sees similarities between his late mother and his wife. In a BBC interview with Mishal Husain in 2017, newly engaged Harry and Meghan spoke about their relationship. When Harry was asked about what his mother would have thought about their engagement Harry answered that she "would have been over the moon" because he believes that Meghan and Diana would have been "best friends" and "thick as thieves."
