The Invictus Games, a multinational sporting event where wounded, injured or sick military services personnel and veterans thereof take part in nine sports, were established by Prince Harry in 2014. 2020 will see the fifth Invictus Game take place on 9-16 May. Harry recently published a short Instagram video to promote the Games, featuring a pretend text conversation with Jon Bon Jovi. Fans and critics have quickly decided to call the Duke out on the "cringey" content of the video.

It's to be expected that Prince Harry, being the founder of the sporting event, would promote the Games through his channels. Fans were still surprised when he posted a short one minute video on Instagram featuring a supposed text conversation with Jon Bon Jovi. The famous singer is scheduled to attend the Invictus Games in May as well, speculation of a collaboration between the two famous men isn’t completely ruled out. The post's description, however, is the first spot where some fans paused for a moment.
“Coming soon…
“#WeAreInvictus
“*Disclaimer – this is not a real text conversation*”
Fans wondered why the disclaimer was felt necessary.

What follows is a made up conversation that some fans have labelled cringey or tacky. After being contacted by Jon Bon Jovi, the made-up Prince Harry starts the talk with a pun on Bon Jovi's famous "Livin' On A Prayer" song. The pun was received with mixed feelings among the fans, one commenting "What is this?! How cringe!" and another even going so far to write "Just when you thought it couldn't possibly get any tackier or low class......" Others had more positive reactions, commenting that the Duke's charitable work was commendable. One fan wrote: "Well done on keeping momentum going... such a great cause gaining even more support from Bon Jovi!"
What follows is a teasing exchange of just a few lines that implies Harry might make an appearance on stage with Bon Jovi, possibly to sing a duet. Unfortunately, the video doesn't give a lot of information to go on. It's vague nature and the added disclaimer make the viewer wonder what exactly the Duke wanted to convey. Many fans are still optimistic or simply happy about the promotion of the sporting event.
While some like the idea of a Bon Jovi - Duke of Sussex teamup, others firmly believe the video to be in bad taste. A third group is simply confused what this is supposed to mean. Aside from the "tacky" pun in the beginning, the fans also complain about the maybe-teaser and uncertainty added by the description.
What did you think of the video post? Is it indeed cringey or do you think it's just some kind of promotion or do you think it's awesome? Tell us your thoughts and pass the story along to your friends to see what they think!
