Prince Harry’s $20 Million Bombshell Memoir To Focus On 'Who He Blames' For Princess Diana’s Death, His Biographer Angela Levin Says

Days ago it was revealed that Prince Harry would be releasing an "intimate" memoir that he calls "wholly truthful." Set to be published by Penguin Random House and released in late 2022, the book is expected to cover his life, from his childhood in the public eye to his marriage to Meghan Markle, and his role as a father. The financial details of this venture have not been disclosed, but Penguin Random House noted Harry will be donating all proceeds to charity.

The royal family has not yet made a statement about Harry's decision to release a memoir, however, it's believed that he only told them about the upcoming book moments before the news became public. Since his and Markle's move to the United States, Harry has been more candid and outspoken about his life as a royal and his dislike for it.

Ever since their move, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's decision to open up about their experiences have led to a rift between them and other royal family members. The falling out has been especially prominent between Harry and his brother Prince William, as well as his father Prince Charles. It is likely that Harry's book deal may not be welcomed by the rest of the royal family.

Now, royal expert and author of "Harry: Biography of a Prince," Angela Levin, revealed that his upcoming book is expected to have a focus on his mother's death and who he blames for it. Just a boy of 12 when Princess Diana died, Harry has spent his adult years honoring his late mother's legacy, while he and Prince William just unveiled the first official statue of her earlier this month to coincide with what would have been her 60th birthday.

Taking to Twitter, Angela Levin wrote:

"I've been told by a well-informed source that Harry's memoir will focus heavily on the death of his mother Princess Diana, and who he blames. It was a terrible tragedy, but sad the man can't move on." 

Princess Diana tragically died at the age of 36 when the car she and her companion Dodi al-Fayed were in, which was driven by Henri Paul, crashed in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997. 

It took seven years for the commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Sir John Stevens, to investigate several questions surrounding the accident. These included whether Diana was pregnant at the time, whether the blood sample from Henri Paul was actually his and if there was a valid justification for eliminating a white Fiat Uno from its involvement in the crash.

Naysayers have branded Prince Harry's memoir, which is reported to be fetching at least $20 million, as a "moneymaking exercise at the expense of his blood family," according to the Daily Mail. However, Penguin Random House has stated that all proceeds from the book will be donated to charity by Harry, CNN reports. 

The Daily Mail adds that Harry's decision to inform his family about the memoir just "moments before it became public" is a sign that his relationship with the royals, especially his father and brother, didn't improve during his visit to the UK for his mother's statue unveiling earlier in July. The royals are said to have been completely blindsided by the announcement and the fact that Harry has been working on the memoir for a year.

Harry is working with Pulitzer Prize-winning ghostwriter J. R. Moehringer on his memoir, which is expected to be released in late 2022. In the announcement released by Penguin Random House, the memoir is described as:

"Covering his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan, and the joy he has found in being a husband and father, Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait, one that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous, and uplifting human story." 

Also in the press release, Harry stated himself:

"I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become. I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story — the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned — I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think." 

The fact that the 36-year-old prince and father of two didn't ask permission from Buckingham Palace first has caused a stir among the tabloid press. To shut them down, the spokesperson for the Sussexes told the BBC that Harry would not be expected to receive permission for such a project by the royal family. However, whether royal officials will be able to see the finished book before it's released next year is unknown at this point.
