Prince Harry Shares Dance And 'Chimpanzee Greeting' With Jane Goodall

Jul 26, 2019 by apost team

We’ve seen Prince Harry transform from a royal wild child sowing his wild oats in urban jungles to an adoring husband, father, and all around Prince Charming. That doesn’t mean there’s not still a little room for some monkey business to bring attention to a serious subject, though.

According to People, the two have met on several occasions over the years. The Prince has expressed many times that he is fascinated by Dr. Goodall's work.

“She is a woman of kindness, warmth, immense knowledge and a softness that’s needed by mankind just as much as it is chimpkind,” he said, according to the publication. “I’ve been admiring her work since I was a kid, and it was so wonderful to find that she was even more amazing in person.”

At their last meeting, the conservationist taught Prince Harry how chimpanzees greet one another and asked him if he remembered it upon meeting it again. The Prince did not disappoint.

The pair reunited on Tuesday at a Roots and Shoots leadership program event held at St. George’s House on Windsor Castle’s grounds. The global Roots & Shoots program was founded by Dr. Jane in 1991 in an effort to empower, ignite, and inspire the youth of the world to take action in making the world a better place for all inhabitants and the environment itself through hands-on projects of their own choosing. The program invites Roots & Shoots students to discuss pressing global issues, share their own projects, and support the projects of others.

Prince Harry and Dr. Jane kicked the event off with a real treat. To the applause, laughter and delight of the young conservationists in attendance, Harry took Dr. Jane’s hands for an impromptu dance. To further show that hard work and a little monkey business go together like bananas and peanut butter, Dr. Jane asked Harry if he recalled the traditional chimp greeting she’d taught him a year earlier.

His reply was something over 3 million viewers have appreciated so far in this video post from sussexroyal, the official Instagram account for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Harry, the male chimp, approached his nervous female chimp, Dr. Jane, and he patted her on the head. This apparently signaled the green light for hug. The two embraced in a sweet hug, complete with a few loving pats on Harry’s back from Dr. Jane. It was now time to get down to business, though.

Prince Harry addressed attendees on issues such as pollution caused by single-use plastic. The Duke of Sussex pointed to dirty habits normalized now, such as buying shaved carrots in a plastic bag vs just grabbing a handful of carrots and taking them home. He also heard a number of presentations on the issues impacting specific countries, including America, Asia, Europe, and Africa.
