Prince Harry Says One of Son Archie’s First Words Was ‘Grandma’ — Adds Princess Diana ‘Would Be Incredibly Proud’ Of Him

Prince Harry has revealed that one of Archie's first words was "grandma," which was the "sweetest" moment for him but was also "sad" because Princess Diana was not there to hear the words. He opened up about this on the docuseries "The Me You Can't See," which released on May 21, 2021.

In cooperation with Oprah Winfrey, former working royals Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have embarked on a docuseries project for mental health awareness. The show, "The Me You Can't See," is executive produced by Winfrey and Harry and features the two discussing emotional well-being and mental health with a number of celebrity guests, including Lady Gaga, Glenn Close, and NBA players DeMar DeRozan and Langston Galloway.

The show will also feature Winfrey and Harry opening up about their own experiences with mental health. Focusing on making sure viewers know they are not alone in the struggle that sometimes happens with mental health, the show's goal is to challenge stigmas and provide insights into how viewers can start the path to treatment.

The series is debuting not long after Meghan and Harry's tell-all interview with Winfrey, but the topic of mental health is one near and dear to Harry's heart. Harry's mother, the late Diana, was known for her outspokenness regarding mental health and beloved by the public for her candid and honest conversations about mental well-being.

It must have certainly been a heartwarming moment for Harry to hear that one of Archie's first words was "grandma." Over the years, Harry has made it clear that his mother continues to impact his life deeply. Much like his mother, he has also been outspoken about mental health and has also criticized the royal family's culture.

"The Me You Can't See" is a docuseries produced by Winfrey and Prince Harry. According to Harper's Bazaar, the show was created in partnership with over a dozen mental health professionals from a variety of specialties who worked on an advisory board for the docuseries. The show will also feature candid discussions with celebrities, such as Lady Gaga and Glen Close, among others, as they talk about mental health. On May 17, 2021, the trailer for the show was released, and it even features some personal footage of Prince Harry. The footage includes Prince Harry at his mother's funeral as a boy, along with clips of Meghan Markle with their little son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The glimpse at Meghan and Harry's firstborn son in the trailer was a surprise appearance.

The clip of Meghan Markle and Archie in the trailer also goes to show just how personal and at-home the topic is for Harry. The sight of the toddler was certainly a surprise, as the family has opted for a more private life in Montecito, California after moving from Canada and after relinquishing their royal duties in the U.K., a decision which has been dubbed "Megxit." The teaser might suggest that fans will get more glimpses of Archie throughout the series, as Harry speaks candidly about mental health.

Harry also opens up about his family while speaking on the series, and Hello! Magazine reports that during the fifth episode, Harry speaks about Archie's first words and the impact they had on him. Harry and Meghan were both present for the episode wherein they reveal smaller details about their life in California.

Harry said that Archie's nursery has a photo of Diana hanging on his wall, and he shared, "I got a photo of her in his nursery, and it was one of the first words that he said — apart from 'mama,' 'papa,' it was then 'grandma.' Grandma Diana."

He continued, "It's the sweetest thing, but at the same time, it makes me really sad because she should be here."

Previously, Harry had revealed to James Corden on "The Late Late Show" that Archie's first word was "crocodile." He told Corden about Archie, "He's got the most amazing personality. He's already putting three or four words together, he's already singing songs."

The fifth episode of "The Me You Can't See" also featured never-before-seen footage of Archie swinging on a hanging bench alongside his father, according to PEOPLE. Harry also opened up about how losing Diana impacted him. "I wish she could've met Meghan," he said. "I wish she was around for Archie."

Harry and Meghan are expecting their second child, a girl, this summer, and Harry reflected that Diana would also be proud of the life he is currently living and has created for his family.

"Yeah, I have no doubt that my mom would be incredibly proud of me. I'm living the life that she wanted to live for herself, living the life that she wanted us to be able to live," he said. He went on to add, "So not only do I know that she's incredibly proud of me, but that she's helped me get here. And I've never felt her presence more as I have done over the last year."
