Prince Harry Honored Princess Diana’s Spirit By Reliving A Happy Childhood Memory With His Son 31 Years Later

The Sussexes have been giving us plenty of adorable moments since the start of 2025. From birthday photos to anniversary tributes, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have stepped out of their shell and given the public a look into their family life. Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, were in Disneyland in Anaheim, California, to celebrate Lili’s fourth birthday on June 4, 2025. But what touched hearts most was the recreation of a cherished memory from Harry’s childhood, one he shared with his late mother, Princess Diana, during a 1993 visit to Walt Disney World.

In August 1993, 8-year-old Harry and his 11-year-old brother, Prince William, joined their mother, Princess Diana, on a private trip to Walt Disney World. Despite a period of profound change following her separation from Prince Charles, Diana sought to give her boys a glimpse of normalcy and joy. That day, they rode Splash Mountain in private, accessing the ride through Disney's discreet underground tunnels. This showed Diana’s devotion to creating enchanting moments for her children despite rarely getting moments of privacy in public.

Prince Harry and his brother have been candid about how the loss of their mother at such a young age impacted their lives. The two have, on occasion, paid tribute to their beloved mother with their wives, who never got to meet the iconic Diana, honoring her through some of their fashion choices. However, it is extraordinary to see Prince Harry and his children remaking memories of his late mother with his own children.

After her separation from Prince Charles, Princess Diana spent time with her children away from the royal residences, allowing them to experience life outside of their royal duties and daily routines. Their trip to Disneyland was definitely one of the sweetest moments captured between Diana, Prince William, and Prince Harry. An employee at one of the restaurants where Princess Diana and her sons had dined recalled:

“They were all very nice, very well behaved. She was a sweetheart.”

Fast forward 31 years, and Prince Harry was the one guiding his son, Prince Archie, through the same beloved log-flume ride, now reborn as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and surrounded by the laughter of his family. His wife, Meghan, shared a video montage of the family’s Disneyland trip for Princess Lilibet’s birthday to her millions of followers.

Meghan’s Instagram video, featuring the family sporting Mickey Mouse ears, radiated pure joy. The clip showed them riding not only this modern version of Splash Mountain but also Dumbo the Flying Elephant, meeting Elsa from “Frozen,” encountering Stormtroopers and savoring classic corndogs and pickles. The video featured Peggy Lee’s “It’s a Good Day” playing in the background.

“Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!” Meghan captioned the post.

Apart from the fun Disneyland experience, the birthday celebrations also included a detailed two-tier cake for the little birthday girl. “The Little Mermaid” themed cake was a nod to Princess Lilibet’s favorite Disney princess and fellow redhead, Princess Ariel. The family of four also walked around Disneyland in matching Mickey Mouse ears, having the time of their lives. Whether this will be a new Sussex birthday tradition or not, they seemed to have a blast at Disneyland!
