Queen Elizabeth II released a statement Saturday evening acknowledging the “scrutiny” her grandson and his wife have come under in the last two years and expressed her support for the young family to lead a more independent life.

Buckingham Palace also revealed some of the terms of the Sussexes new Royal status. According to CNN, Meghan and Harry will retain their royal HRH titles but will not use them - a move some suggest the Queen made so as to keep the door open should the couple regret their decision. Additionally, the Duke and Duchess will cease to receive public funding and are expected to pay back $3 million from the sovereign grant that went toward the refurbishment of the Frogmore Cottage home last year. Harry will also be giving up his military appointments as part of the agreement.

As the Sussexes split from the Royal family continues to make headlines, Harry gave a speech on Sunday evening at a charity dinner in London where he broke his silence on the matter.

“It brings me great sadness that it has come to this,” he said. “The decision I made for my wife and I step back is not one I made lightly. It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges. I know I haven't always gotten it right but as far as this goes, there was no other option.”

The Duke revealed that he and Meghan had a different idea in mind when they say they wished to “step back” from their senior royal roles earlier this month.

“Our hope was to continue serving the queen, the commonwealth and my military associations but without public funding but unfortunately, that wasn't possible,” Harry said.

The Prince thanked the public for their continuous support over the years following the death of his mother Diana, Princess of Wales, and said the media is a “powerful” force.

Finishing on a more positive note, Harry gave attendees as well as Royal fans across the globe a glimpse into his 8-month old son Archie’s life.

“Archie saw snow for the first time the other day and thought it was bloody brilliant.”
