Prince Harry Comes Face-To-Face With King Charles After Months Apart

Prince Harry and King Charles shared a long-awaited reunion on September 10, 2025. It's worth noting that it was the first time the two have come face-to-face since February 2024, when the monarch, 76, disclosed he was undergoing treatment for an unspecified form of cancer.
Harry returned to Britain on September 8 for a series of charitable commitments. Upon his arrival, he honored Queen Elizabeth on the third anniversary of her passing, then attended the WellChild Awards that evening. The following day, he journeyed to Nottingham, roughly 130 miles north of London, to shine a light on youth-focused initiatives taking place there.
Progress between Harry and the wider royal household had already begun earlier in the summer. In July, representatives from the Duke of Sussex's new team held a meeting with one of King Charles' senior staff members. Observers interpreted the discussion as a small but meaningful effort to rebuild trust. "It was a good first step," an insider told PEOPLE. "It is always better to be talking."
Reports from the same period also indicated that Harry expressed willingness to share his official itinerary with the Palace. Such coordination would allow both sides to prevent clashes between his and Meghan Markle's public appearances and the royal family's engagements, reducing any speculation of intentional rivalry.
Despite the father–son meeting, unresolved tensions continue to surround Harry's relationship with Prince William. Royal historian Robert Lacey, author of "Battle of Brothers," reflected on the strained dynamic, saying: "The rift is very profound and very long-lasting. It will not be changed, in my opinion, until Harry makes a move and apologizes."
Amanda Foreman echoed that sentiment, noting: "Everyone wants it to happen on their terms, but that's what makes it impossible."

On September 10, both King Charles and Prince Harry found themselves in London for separate engagements before eventually meeting later that day. The Duke of Sussex spent part of the afternoon at Imperial College London's Centre for Blast Injury Studies. As he left the venue, he interacted warmly with supporters gathered outside. The Daily Mail reported that Harry was shaking hands and taking selfies. After that, he excused himself with a laugh, saying:
"I have to go, I'm so late… I've got to go, I've got to go. Nice to meet you guys."
At the same time, King Charles had been traveling from Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where he had spent several weeks, down to the capital. Upon arriving in London, the King went directly to Clarence House, his official residence. There, he carried out a series of engagements, including presiding over an investiture ceremony for Holocaust educator Manfred Goldberg and later meeting with Peter Malinauskas, the premier of South Australia.
By late afternoon, Harry, 40, was seen entering Clarence House around 5:20 p.m. He remained inside for nearly an hour before departing. Shortly after, Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming that the King and his son had shared a private tea at Clarence House but declined to disclose further details. A representative for Harry echoed the same message, noting only that the father and son had indeed spent time together over tea.
The encounter marked a pivotal step in their strained relationship. Sources previously told PEOPLE that Charles had stopped answering Harry's calls. Still, Harry expressed to BBC News in May 2025 that he longed for a "reconciliation," although he admitted that his memoir, "Spare," and other actions had complicated conversations with his family.
