Prince Harry Breaks His Silence On His And Meghan Markle's Use Of A Private Jets

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have come under fire recently for the private jets they took to Nice, France, and Ibiza for Meghan’s 38th birthday. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been vocal about their stance on global warming and campaigning for issues around climate change.

Many, however, are criticizing the royal couple for using planes to jet around for Meghan’s extravagant birthday holiday in August. Prince Harry has now broken his silence over the controversy.

The Sussexes attended an event in The Netherlands yesterday, where he explained his reasoning for the jet flights which were gifted to the couple by Elton John to fly to France and Ibiza.

“We can all do better and while no one is perfect, we all have a responsibility for our own individual impact,” the new dad said as People reports. “The question is what we do to balance it out.”

Harry is hinting at the fact that Meghan and he took carbon neutral flights. Elton John who gifted the family the flights along with a stay at their home in Nice, France rose to the Duke and Duchess’ defense on Instagram saying,

“To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint."

Carbon neutral flights are where passengers can pay to 'offset' or make up for the emissions that their flights produce. While at the event, Prince Harry also addressed his other reasons for taking the private jets on holiday when asked by the audience.

“I came here by commercial. I spend 99% of my life traveling the world by commercial,” he said. “Occasionally, there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure my family are safe and it’s genuinely as simple as that.”

Elton John also referred to the royal family’s safety as reasoning for the couple to travel by a private jet.

“After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home. To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight,” the singer wrote.
