Prince Harry Barred From Wearing Military Uniform After Stepping Back From Royal Family

After Megxit negotiations, Prince Harry has agreed to give up his Armed Forces appointments which will bar the royal from wearing his military uniform. Prince Harry served the British army for 9 years before leaving in 2015. This is one of the latest conditions in Meghan and Harry's deal with stepping back from the royal family.

According to the Telegraph, Harry served from 2006 to 2015 in the army and underwent two tours of Afghanistan, he was known as 'Captain Wales.' After leaving, the Duke was able to wear his military uniform at official engagements, however, that has now changed due to the terms of the Megxit deal.

Lord West of Spithead, the former First Sea Lord told the Telegraph, “The next time he [the Duke of Sussex] is at a military event he should be in civilian clothes because he is no longer involved with any military units." If and when Harry attends events like Trooping the Colour and Remembrance Sunday he will be barred from wearing his military uniform. 

"It is very unfortunate. It is very sad to be losing him from the military," Lord West said. 

The 35-year-old is still able to wear his medals but not his official uniform. 

Queen Elizabeth released a statement confirming Meghan and Harry will be stepping as senior members of the royal family. The couple will not only be allowed to be financially independent of the crown but they will also lose their HRH titles. In addition to being stripped of their royalties, the couple will also have to repay the money to refurbish their estate in the U.K. -- Frogmore Cottage. 

With Harry stepping back, many people in the Royal Marines are concerned about who will be the Captain General. The Captain General role was filled by Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh before being passed on to Prince Harry. 

Lord West told the Telegraph, “A number of people in the Royal Marines had expressed concerns that they didn’t want a part-timer carrying out such an important role. It will be interesting to see who the next Captain General will be." The former First Sea Lord also made it clear that the Royal Marines do not want some who will be splitting up their time between two places. 

"The Royal Marines will be sad to see Harry go but they were not happy to have a Captain General who was going to be only part-time in the UK.” 

Prince Harry has jetted to Canada to be with Meghan Markle and his son Archie to start their new life together. Even though Harry will have to return to the U.K. to hammer out the details of he and Meghan's royal exit.
