Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Went ‘The Extra Mile’ To Celebrate Son Archie’s 2nd Birthday While Feeling ‘So Blessed’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had an incredibly busy three years. Ever since their May 2018 wedding, which was aired for the world to see, they haven't slowed down. Back then they were living in London and were working royals, but the changes they've made since then have been huge.

First, their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born on May 6, 2019, just shy of their one-year wedding anniversary. Then, less than one year after that, they renounced their official titles and stepped down as working royals. The young family then moved around: first to Vancouver Island for a few months, before settling down in Markle's home state of California, moving first to Los Angeles then Montecito, Santa Barbara for some more privacy.

After announcing they were expecting their second child this summer — following a miscarriage that Markle endured in 2020 — the couple then released a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March of this year, in which they detailed the reasons they left the royal family.

Now, months before their daughter is due to be born, they celebrated Archie's 2nd birthday and his last before he becomes a big brother. Remaining 7th in line to the British throne, Archie is growing up quicker than anyone can keep up. His mom and dad chose to mark his special day by releasing a new photo of the toddler, and it looks absolutely adorable. Furthermore, they're sharing their generous spirit with their son already, calling on fans to donate to a worthy cause in honor of Archie's birthday.

A source spoke to US Weekly about the family's plans for Archie's 2nd birthday and the last one he'll celebrate as the couple's only child. They revealed:

“While Harry and Meghan are raising Archie to be grounded, they go the extra mile on his birthday. They made (his) card themselves and wrote a sweet poem inside, splashed out on gifts — including outdoor toys — and have bought him the cutest birthday outfit!”

In honor of Archie's birthday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex posted an inspiring message to the website of their foundation Archewell's website asking fans to help donate to a worthy cause. Stating that for every $5 donation, a COVID vaccine will be donated to someone in need. Meanwhile, a number of organizations will match the contribution, turning it into $20, which equals four vaccines. They wrote on their website:

“We have been deeply touched over the past two years to feel the warmth and support for our family in honor of Archie’s birthday … We are inviting you to contribute whatever you can — if you have the means to do so — to bring vaccines to families in the world’s most vulnerable places (amid COVID-19)."

Alongside the kind gesture, the couple shared a gorgeous new picture of Archie in tribute to their son. The image is all kinds of adorable and although we do not get a look at Archie's face, the sepia-toned photo is taken from behind and features the toddler standing up, wearing an adorable knit sweater, tiny trousers and sneakers. The image shows that his head is already full of curls, and he seems to be looking up at the bouquet of balloons he is holding.

Alongside thanking fans for their donations over the years and providing their reasoning to support this initiative, the Sussexes concluded their message by writing:

"We cannot think of a more resonant way to honor our son's birthday. If we all show up, with compassion for those we both know and don't know, we can have a profound impact. Even a small contribution can have a ripple effect. Together, we can uplift, protect, and care for one another."

Considering they've spent much of their influence on campaigns for the betterment of others, it's no surprise they are already showing their son, even at such a young age, how to help others.

The same source who spoke to US Weekly also stated to the magazine:

“They want Archie to grow up understanding the importance of giving back. Harry and Meghan feel so blessed to have such an articulate and caring child. Archie is learning to count already and keeps saying, ‘Two!'”

It's clear that becoming parents inspired the royal couple to make an even bigger positive change in the world. While speaking at Fortune's "Most Powerful Next Gen Summit" in Oct. 2020, Markle spoke further about this, as reported by US Weekly:

“It’s interesting because my gut is that it makes you more courageous, it makes you so concerned for the world they’re going to inherit ... So, the things you’re able to tolerate on your own are not the same that you are going to put your child in a position of vulnerability for. You go every single day — how can I make this world better for Archie? That is a shared belief for my husband and I.”

It's clear they're showing their son how to be considerate of others in the world, and that's inspiring to see.
