Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will ditch their ‘Sussex Royal’ brand following discussions with the British Crown, a spokesperson for the couple revealed today.

The decision means the Sussexes will be dropping the brand name when they launch their new non-profit organization in the upcoming months.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be dropping the word ‘Royal’ from their branding later this year. The decision is in line with their announcement earlier this year that they will no longer be acting as ‘senior Royals’ and are seeking financial independence.

The news means the couple will be abandoning their plans to trademark ‘Sussex Royal’ and will have to abandon their Instagram name and official website.

A spokesperson for the couple said in a statement earlier today that Meghan and Harry will no longer be using the brand name following the Spring.

"While the duke and duchess are focused on plans to establish a new non-profit organisation, given the specific UK government rules surrounding the use of the word Royal, it has been therefore agreed their non-profit organisation, when it is announced this spring, will not be named Sussex Royal Foundation.”

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use 'SussexRoyal' in any territory post-spring 2020."

According to Sky News, Meghan and Harry will be officially ending their duties as senior Royals on March 31st. Their last Royal engagement is likely to take place on March 9 at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey.

Last month, the couple announced via their Instagram account that they desired to step down as senior members of the Royal family.

“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen,” their statment reads. “It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.”
