Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have just announced that they are stepping back from their senior roles as members of the British Royal family. However, sources report that the couple did not tell Buckingham Palace before making the announcement leaving royal members "hurt" by Harry and Meghan's actions.
Royal correspondent Jonny Dymond for BBC News wrote on social media that Buckingham Palace felt 'blindsided' by the news. A palace source told Dymond, "senior members of the Royal family feel “hurt” by the announcement that Harry and Meghan are to withdraw from their current Royal roles. The source confirmed that no members of the royal family were consulted."

Taking to their official Instagram account last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex posted a statement announcing they “intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and “work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”
The couple added that they will be splitting their time between the Prince’s native United Kingdom and North America and will be announcing the launch of their new charitable entity in the near future. The move comes just days after the couple’s return from a six-week-long hiatus in Canada with their 8-month son Archie, where they spent Christmas with Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland.

Royal commentator Penny Juror told the BBC that Meghan and Harry's actions were very similar to that of Harry's mother, the late Princess Diana. "It has echoes of Diana when she suddenly announced after her separation [from Charles] that she was stepping back from 50 of her charities without consulting anybody," Juror said.
"The problem is that they are not working for themselves, they are working for a family firm and to be making announcements of this sort without consulting is beyond bizarre."
Political head for Republic, Graham Smith, critiqued the Sussex's decision to step back without consulting anybody and said to BBC it "raises questions about the monarchy's future." He also believes that the couple mentioning that they will work towards becoming financially independent is "incredibly crass and belies a sense of self-entitlement and a lack of self-awareness that is common among royals."
"This really is wanting to have your cake and eat it. They have said they will dip in and out of royal duties as it suits them but won't stop taking public money until they find other sources of income."

Last November, Meghan Markle launched legal action against UK based media Associated Newspapers, citing the “misuse of private information, infringement of copyright and breach of the Data Protection Act 2018” as their claims against the publishers.
Her husband the Duke of Sussex immediately released a statement towards the public condemning the “ruthless campaign” against his wife by the British tabloid press, drawing comparisons to his late mother Diana, Princess of Wales.
