Prince Harry And Meghan Markle On Cover Of TIME Magazine's Most Influential People Issue

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had a huge year and we're only just in September. Well, now, their year just got even bigger, after making it on TIME's Most Influential People list and landing one of the seven magazine covers.

Following a very busy six months — which included their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, the birth of their first daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor on June 4, the release of Markle's bestselling first children's book "The Bench" mere days later, the release of Harry's television series with Winfrey, "The Me You Can't See" and an announcement of his upcoming memoir set for release next year — it's no wonder TIME has chosen them as two of the world's most influential people.

What's resonated with many people about the Sussexes is that they're choosing to speak up on topics that are often left in the dark, such as mental health. They also use their platform, Archewell, to speak with people who often don't have a voice, in a bid to bring more equality and kindness into the world.

However, despite their efforts to bring about positivity and lead a peaceful and quiet life, the couple still experiences extreme judgment, especially from the British tabloid press.

In the TIME feature, writer José Andrés penned a short profile about the couple, praising them for using Archewell to give a "voice to the voiceless." In the text he adds that it's not an easy choice for them to spring into action, explaining, "it would be much safer to enjoy their good fortune and stay silent."

Andres explains a bit about what Archewell does, stating:

“Hand in hand with nonprofit partners, they take risks to help communities in need – offering mental-health support to Black women and girls in the US, and feeding those affected by natural disasters in India and the Caribbean."

He adds:

“In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don’t know, the Duke and Duchess have compassion for the people they don’t know. They don’t just opine. They run toward the struggle.”

For their appearance on TIME's esteemed list, the couple posed for a number of photos. The cover photo — which marks the couple's first formal cover photoshoot together — sees Markle wearing a white shirt and pants with Harry leaning on her shoulder dressed in all-black. In another photo, the power couple wears complementary olive looks as they stand in front of a window, while in a third photo they can be seen walking through nature as they smile at one another.

Their cover is one of seven, while the others include Simone Biles, Billie Eilish, Kate Winslet, writer Cathy Park Hong, director-general of the World Trade Organization Okonjo-Iweala and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. Other notable people who made the list include President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, Selena Gomez, Naomi Osaka, Dr. Anthony Fauci, former President Donald Trump, Black Lives Matter Founders Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi and others.

The issue hits newsstands on Sep. 17 and for the second year running, will be accompanied by a special television event that will air on Sep. 20 on ABC.
