Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Make Appeal To Fans — Read Statement Posted On Archewell Foundation’s Website

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been making headlines for the last few months for various reasons, but most often for their unfiltered interviews about their time as royals since they left their role as senior working members of the family in March 2020.

The already tense relationship between Harry, Prince William and the rest of the family ignited further after Harry and Meghan sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a controversial interview in March 2021. During the television special, the couple openly criticized the royal family and its culture. This interview was followed up with other notorious interviews in 2021, such as Harry's claims that royal life was a mix of 'The Truman Show' and "Being In A Zoo" and his role in the Apple+ docuseries "The Me You Can't see."

This has led to a major rift in the royal family between Harry and everyone else, which has been the subject of media scrutiny for the past year. Since leaving, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been continuing to live their lives as per their own rules and not being tied down by any expectations anymore.

They have been particularly vocal about issues that are close to their heart and share regular updates with royal fans on their foundation's website. Most recently, the couple has put forward an appeal to their fans asking them to share stories of compassion on July 7, 2021, and in a heartwarming statement, have written about the role compassion plays in our world today. Read on to know more about the statement that has been released by Meghan and Harry.

Marie Claire UK reported that Harry and Meghan have made headlines since releasing their statement on their website Archewell. The statement read, "Our mission at Archewell is to drive systemic, cultural change —  one act of compassion at a time. We believe that compassion is at the core of all culture and connection in this world. It shows up in all of our interactions with people and enriches our lives and the lives of those around us."

It continued, "To us, compassion means more than the dictionary definition. It means listening with open ears to the suffering and celebrations of communities and people beyond ourselves." In the statement, Meghan and Harry elaborated on what compassion means to them and why it is important for current times and concluded it with a request for their fans.

"Each time someone conducts an act of compassion — whether it’s mentoring a young woman or holding space for someone having a difficult day — our world becomes a better place," the statement added, concluding, "Compassion is at the core of everything we do. We hope you’ll join us in building a better world, one act of compassion at a time."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex asked their fans a question at the end, "What is an act of compassion you did or that someone did for you?" Fans that submit stories have a chance to be featured on the Archewell website, which is certainly an exciting development.

Harry and Meghan aren't just talkers but also walkers, as they have done their own compassionate acts over the last year.

Harper's Bazaar reported that ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2021, the Archewell Foundation shared a list of more than 20 “real acts of compassion” that will benefit women in communities across the world. Through these acts, Harry and Meghan hoped that the suggestions will see a “groundswell” of compassionate actions. "[They] are hopeful to see families and communities everywhere join together to unleash compassion, one action at a time," a Sussex spokesperson told the magazine.

May 9, 2021, marked Mother's Day across many nations in the world, including the US, and Harry and Meghan celebrated the day in a very special way. Meghan chose to honor the day in her home state by recognizing a local charity. Through the Archewell foundation in partnership with the company Procter & Gamble, Harry and Meghan released a statement saying they will be donating a year's worth of diapers and cleaning supplies to a Los Angeles-based charity organization that provides housing for pregnant women and their children.

Harry and Meghan wrote on their foundation's website:

"In honor of Mother’s Day, Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are recognizing the work of Harvest Home, a Los Angeles–based organization that uplifts expectant mothers who are experiencing homelessness."

Meghan and Harry reflected on how pregnancy can be a vulnerable time for any woman, but especially so for women who are homeless and women of color, who are often turned away from homeless shelters through no fault of their own. They recognize the "extraordinary facility" and work that Harvest Home has already done for many women, and pledge to help them as they expand their organization to care for more women.

Harry and Meghan have shown that they practice what they preach about compassion.
