The award-winning rock star Jon Bon Jovi teamed up with the Duke of Sussex and the Invictus Games Choir to record a new single, Unbroken, which came out this Friday. Proceeds from the new track will go to the Invictus Games Foundation, which supports rehabilitating injured and/or sick military personnel.

The talented duo recorded the track last month at London’s Abbey Road Studios with the help of John Shanks, the six-time Grammy nominated producer, according to Rolling Stone. Despite the royal feature and all the media buzz, the track isn’t entirely new, however. In fact, it’s based on Bon Jovi’s 2019 track of the same name. With that said, the 12-piece Invictus Games military choir — along with Prince Harry’s help — helped to update the song last month.

“[The prince] was wonderful when he came to see us. He gave us all a big hug,” Caroline Beazley, a member of the choir who was shot serving with Britain’s armed forces in 1994, told Reuters.
“I was injured a number of years ago and I hid away for a long number of years for various reasons,” she added. “Being part of the choir for me [...] It’s about just being part of a group of people that kind of get you and understand you.”
Last month, Prince Harry teased the new charity song in a video he posted to the Sussex Royal Instagram page. But the video, which showed Bon Jovi and the prince in the studio together, stopped right before the two began singing together.
“Alright, this is going to be really easy,” Bon Jovi told the prince in the Instagram video. “Just pretend that you’re singing in your bedroom [...] Breath deep. Shout it out. One, two three.” And on that cliff hanger, the video ended.
Apparently, the collaboration was relatively spontaneous, according to Bon Jovi’s interview with BBC. "In light of what has come, you know, with his leaving the monarchy, as it were, I didn't plan on any of this,” Bon Jovi told BBC.
The artistic relationship between the two began after Harry sent a letter to the rock star, asking to be on the updated track and suggesting that they include the Invictus Choir. Bon Jovi agreed, sent Harry the song and the two then began to collaborate. Despite Harry’s controversial decision to renounce his royal title, Bon Jovi said that he was enthusiastic to come back to England to collaborate with the artist.

“He said: 'Not only am I going to come back [to England], you know, but I want to be there when you do it.’”
"And to do it at Abbey Road, of course where the Beatles once were; and to do it with the "artist formerly known as Prince", I think it's gonna be an incredible, moving moment."
On May 15, Bon Jovi will release his new album, Bon Jovi 2020, followed by a summer tour that is expected to begin in July. But as of Friday, you can already listen to Bon Jovi and Prince Harry’s new song in full on Bon Jovi’s YouTube page.
