Prince Harry recently sat down for an interview with Dr. Jane Goodall, one of the world’s most famous primatologists and conservationists in the world. The two sat for a chat at the Duke and Duchesses home for the September issue for Vogue UK, which was guest-edited by none other than the Duchess herself. During the interview, Harry revealed he and the Duchess of Sussex’s plans for future children. “Two maximum!” he told Jane Goodall.

The conservationist and prince had been discussing how having children can change your perspective on preserving the environment. Jane had asked the Prince if it makes it different after having a baby to which the Prince replied,

“It does make it different. I think, weirdly, because of the people that I’ve met and the places that I’ve been fortunate enough to go to, I’ve always had a connection and a love for nature. I view it differently now, without question. But I’ve always wanted to try and ensure that, even before having a child and hoping to have children… "

“Not too many!” the ethologist said with a laugh. “Two, maximum!” The Duke exclaimed. “But I’ve always thought: this place is borrowed. And, surely, being as intelligent as we all are, or as evolved as we all are supposed to be, we should be able to leave something better behind for the next generation.”

Harry and Jane also discussed the dangers of unconscious racism. Meghan Markle is the first woman of color to become part of the Royal Family, something that has afforded her both appraisal and scrutiny from the public. The Duke brought up the matter of racism once more when speaking to Dr. Goodall.

“What I love about your work is that you focus on the younger generation,” he said. “[When] you start to peel away all the layers, all the taught behaviour, the learned behavior, the experienced behavior, you start to peel all that away and at the end of the day, we’re all humans.” “Especially if you get little kids together, there’s no difference! They don’t notice, “My skin’s white, mine’s black,” until somebody tells them,” she added.
