Prince George Stands Almost Shoulder To Shoulder With Princess Catherine In Rare Mother-Son Outing

Prince George is stepping into public life with the same careful pace his parents have long chosen for him.

The 12-year-old royal joined Catherine, Princess of Wales, for a meaningful visit to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, in a video shared by the Prince and Princess of Wales to mark the United Kingdom’s Armed Forces Day on June 27, 2026.

The footage showed George and Catherine exploring historic aircraft, speaking with pilots and engineers, and taking turns sitting in aircraft cockpits. The visit carried an added personal connection, as Catherine has served as Royal Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Coningsby since 2023. George, meanwhile, appeared relaxed and curious as he learned about the aircraft and the people who maintain them.

“Honouring Service and Sacrifice,” the caption read, before describing the visit as a chance to learn about “the extraordinary history of these aircraft” and meet “the pilots and engineers who keep their legacy alive.”

The moment also drew attention because George appeared nearly as tall as his mother, offering another reminder of how quickly the future king is growing. Born on July 22, 2013, George is second in line to the throne after his father, Prince William.

The appearance was rare but carefully chosen. William and Catherine have introduced their children to public life gradually, allowing George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis to appear at major royal events while preserving a strong sense of privacy around their childhood. The aircraft setting also reflected a long royal connection with aviation, from William’s service as a helicopter pilot to the family’s repeated support for military communities.

The rare mother-son visit also came during an important educational chapter for Prince George. Kensington Palace has confirmed that he will attend Eton College from September 2026, following the path taken by his father, Prince William, and uncle, Prince Harry, before him.

George has been educated at Lambrook School in Berkshire with Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Charlotte was born on May 2, 2015, while Louis was born on April 23, 2018. The three Wales children began attending Lambrook in 2022 after the family moved closer to Windsor.

Eton College, located in Berkshire near Windsor, was founded by Henry VI in 1440. The independent boys’ boarding school is one of Britain’s best-known educational institutions and has educated generations of public figures, including 20 British prime ministers. Among its notable alumni are David Cameron and Boris Johnson, as well as Prince William, who attended from 1995 to 2000, and Prince Harry, who attended from 1998 to 2003.

For George, the move represents both a family link and a major step toward adolescence. It also reflects the balance Prince William and Princess Catherine continue to strike: giving their eldest son a grounded upbringing while slowly preparing him for the responsibilities attached to his place in the line of succession.

The thumbnail photo of the Instagram clip also showed Prince George standing beside his mother in the aircraft hangar footage. The snap showed the young royal standing almost shoulder to shoulder with Princess Catherine, highlighting just how much he had grown.

That balance was visible at RAF Coningsby. The visit was not only a polished royal engagement but also a moment of learning, curiosity, and connection. Surrounded by aircraft tied to Britain’s wartime history, George appeared as both a young boy fascinated by aviation and a future monarch being introduced to service in a natural, age-appropriate way. The outing gave the public a respectful glimpse of how tradition, family and duty can meet in one carefully framed royal moment.
