People from all across the world watched as Prince William and Kate Middleton married on April 29, 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London. While they tried to keep their relationship private at first, the couple had been showing off their beautiful romance since they began dating back in 2003 and were officially engaged in October 2010. Their wedding was a momentous occasion full of love and adoration for one another with the support of all their friends, family and plenty of other onlookers from around the world.

There are many traditions and customary practices that take place during weddings, although they can differ between cultures and amongst individuals. Middleton and William upheld the tradition of adorning both sides of the main aisle in their procession with a specific decoration — English field maple trees. With such a graceful and elegant event came more stunning decor and mementos for those who attended the royal wedding. Prince Charles, the father of the groom, took home some of those decorations, allowing them to fully flourish in his own backyard and at the home of the happy couple.

The happy couple is celebrating their 10-year anniversary on April 29, 2021, an incredible milestone that has been reached through plenty of beautiful, fun and challenging moments over the years. Middleton and William have started their gorgeous and bountiful family together and have three adorable children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. As the family has expanded in size and has continued to prosper, their stunning wedding decorations have as well.

The wedding of Middleton and William was a moment celebrated not only with their personal friends and family, but also with the rest of the world watching on. The royal family took part in the wedding, both as guests and members of the wedding party. Prince Harry served as his brother’s best man, while Pippa Middleton served as her sister’s maid of honor. Many others came to the event, including diplomats, foreign family members and other personal guests. The newlyweds made a traditional appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace following the ceremony.

The wedding was considered a public holiday in the United Kingdom, and events were held around the Commonwealth in anticipation of the occurrence. The ceremony itself was viewed by a live audience across the globe, including 72 million live streams on YouTube and tens of millions more throughout the rest of the world, according to Metro UK. The number of viewers peaked at 26.3 million in the United Kingdom, with a total of 36.7 million watching parts of the ceremony. It was an important moment in British history, especially for the future of the throne.

Westminster Abbey became a traditional location for coronations in the year 1066 but did not become the church’s choice for royal ceremonies much later. It was even the location for Queen Elizabeth II and the late Prince Philip’s wedding in 1947. One of the most prominent decorations that adorned the abbey were English maple trees, as well as other plants arranged on either side of the main aisle.

With a new marriage typically comes new challenges and excitement to grow even more with your life partner. Middleton and William were not the only ones who were able to flourish following their stunning wedding in London. According to the Daily Mail, six of the maple trees from their wedding were replanted at Charles’ holiday home in Wales in April 2012. The Daily Mail reported that they were “flourishing in a delightful natural legacy of the royal couple’s big day.”

Charles was the mastermind behind the touching idea of planting them outside Middleton and William’s home in Llwynywermod as well. The trees can grow upwards of 50 feet high and live for a total of 200 years. They seem to be just as bright and bold as the wedding they originally starred in back in 2011. According to the Daily Mail, Charles was thrilled that the trees were keeping up so well.

A spokesperson for the Clarence House, a British royal residence in Westminster, talked about how happy Charles was with the maple trees and their development. “His Royal Highness is really pleased that some of the trees, which were enjoyed by so many over the wedding period, have gone on to be planted at Llwynywermod,” the spokesman said. “These glorious trees both compliment the landscape and the house in this very special part of the country.”

While the royal family is known for stunning elegance and grace, Middleton and William decided to bring in a humble touch of nature with their glorious wedding. The maple trees have continued to grow long past the wedding date, much like the couple has as they celebrate their 10-year anniversary this year.
