As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle continue to build their lives in the United States following their departure from royal duties, public curiosity about their family remains strong. While glimpses into their own routines have become more familiar, their children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet – have been mainly kept out of the spotlight. But that might change soon as the family prepares to celebrate a special milestone: Prince Archie’s 6th birthday on May 6, 2025. Will new photos of the prince be released?

Archie celebrated his 4th birthday on May 6, 2023, the same day King Charles III had his coronation ceremony in the United Kingdom. Despite choosing to keep their only son out of the public eye, the Sussexes have given the public glimpses of their firstborn on multiple occasions. From these moments, we’ve learned a few things about the young prince – notably, his adorable resemblance to both of his parents! In celebration of his birthday, let’s look at Prince Archie of Sussex’s family resemblance.

Born on May 6, 2019, almost one year after his parents’ first wedding anniversary, Archie kept eager royal fans interested in him. In his short life, the young prince has moved around a lot. Less than a year after his birth in the UK, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as working royals. The young family then moved to Vancouver Island for a few months before settling down in Meghan’s home state of California, moving first to Los Angeles, then Montecito, Santa Barbara, for more privacy. In celebration of Archie’s 6th birthday, let’s look back on how Prince Harry and Meghan celebrated Archie’s birthday through the years.

For Archie’s first birthday, Save With Stories posted a video of Meghan reading a book titled “Duck! Rabbit!” to Archie on her lap. As Meghan tried to capture the young royal’s attention by making him flip through the pages of the picture book, Prince Harry was behind the camera, filming the adorable moment. Little Archie couldn’t communicate with his parents at the time, but he could be heard saying “Da, da, da, da,” to his “Dada” behind the camera.

Sadly, Archie’s first birthday was celebrated with fewer people because of the strict guidelines of the coronavirus pandemic at the time.

“They are celebrating as a family focused on Archie and being together,” a source told PEOPLE at the time. “They’ll have a smash cake and Zooms with family and friends. It’s been beautiful weather, so perhaps a family stroll with the dogs.”

For his second birthday, the Sussexes posted a photo of a now-standing Archie holding a bouquet of balloons on a field. Harry and Meghan said in their message.

“We cannot think of a more resonant way to honor our son’s birthday,” they said, while also imploring fans to donate to a vaccine equity fund. “If we all show up, with compassion for those we both know and don’t know, we can have a profound impact. Even a small contribution can have a ripple effect. Together, we can uplift, protect, and care for one another.”

One month after he celebrated his second birthday, Archie officially became an older brother as Meghan and Harry welcomed their daughter, Princess Lilibet, in June 2021.

On Archie’s third birthday in 2022, Harry and Meghan chose not to release an official birthday photo. However, the British Royal Family’s social media account marked the occasion, posting a picture of the Sussexes with the late Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II meeting newborn Archie.

“Wishing Archie Mountbatten-Windsor a very happy 3rd Birthday!” the caption read.

Prince William and Princess Catherine also shared birthday wishes on social media, posting a photo from Archie’s christening featuring Harry, Meghan, King Charles, Queen Camilla, Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, and Princess Diana’s sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes.

For Archie’s fourth birthday, a local bike shop in Montecito gifted him a bicycle. One of the owners, being British, felt inspired to send the present. According to PEOPLE, the shop later received a thank-you note from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“On behalf of Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, please accept their sincere thanks for the thoughtful gift you sent to Prince Archie for his fourth birthday. The bike has brought much joy, and is most appreciated by the family. They asked that I convey their gratitude at the lovely surprise,” the letter read.

Like the year before, Archie’s fourth birthday was a private affair. A source shared it was “going to be a low-key party at home,” with Meghan’s mom Doria and close friends attending.

In January 2024, a clip from the Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan” resurfaced on TikTok, showing the couple preparing a balloon arch and baking for Archie’s first birthday.

“We are making this balloon arch for Archie’s first birthday,” Meghan said. Harry jokingly replied: “Doesn’t look like an arch.”

A TikTok user, referring to the late Princess Diana’s preference for simplicity, said, “I love them so much I know Princess Diana is happy for them.”

“Happy family. Good thing you left UK drama. What a peacefully life,” another commented.

Since May 5, 2024, Archie has remained mostly out of the public eye, with a few heartwarming glimpses shared by his parents. In December 2024, the Sussexes released a family Christmas card featuring a collage of images, including Archie and his sister, Lilibet, with their family dogs. The photos revealed Archie’s growing resemblance to Harry, especially his bright red hair.

In 2025, Meghan shared more personal family moments on her relaunched Instagram account. One striking black-and-white photo showed Prince Harry walking with Archie, carrying Lilibet on his shoulders in their Montecito garden – a quiet symbol of the couple’s continued focus on family life.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry has faced legal setbacks in securing police protection while in the UK. After losing an appeal in early 2025, he publicly expressed regret over the impact on his children’s future connections with his homeland.

“I can’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point,” he stated, underscoring the emotional weight of their limited access to his heritage.

For Archie’s sixth birthday, the Sussexes are well-expected to celebrate privately at their Montecito home. Their past birthday traditions have favored intimacy over spectacle – from homemade cakes and balloon arches to meaningful gifts like a bicycle from a local shop. These rare but tender updates reflect Harry and Meghan’s continued efforts to raise Archie and Lilibet in a grounded, loving environment away from royal pressures.
