Priest Donated His Kidney To A Little Girl And It Was A Perfect Match

A pastor in Indiana stepped up in a big way when a young member of his church learned she needed a kidney transplant. The pastor decided to give the young girl his own kidney.

Local channel RTV6 reported on the story of nine-year-old Alana Miller.

The little girl was six when she was first informed about her stage 3 chronic kidney disease diagnosis.

Jennie Miller, Alana's mother, sent out a prayer request to her church and asked all interested parties to pray for her daughter and to consider being tested for a kidney match. She hoped a donor could be found for her daughter in time.

Chris McClaughlin is the Miller family pastor at Stones Crossing Church saw the prayer request. He made the decision to offer Alana his own kidney because he said that he "can see God in the midst of this," he told RTV6.

He explains his belief that a situation like this would not be possible if not part of God's plan.

When the surgery to remove one of McClaughlin's kidneys began, doctors noticed immediately the pastor's kidneys were oddly shaped. It turned out the blood vessels in the pastor's kidneys did not come out the center of his kidneys like everyone else. Instead, Pastor McClaughlin's blood vessels come out at the top of his kidneys.

Dr. Goggins, the surgeon involved with the transplant said that the positioning of the blood vessels is of the utmost importance. The surgeon says there is no other explanation besides the obvious.

Pastor McClaughlin's kidney was meant for the little girl:

"Somebody upstairs really wants her to get this kidney, because it was so perfectly set up for her," Alana's doctor told RTV6 in an interview.

Alana says she is grateful for what her pastor has done for her. She also says she has a lot more energy than she possessed before the surgery.

She says it feels good to finally be able to take part in all the activities she once had to watch other children enjoying.
